Traffic restrictions have been introduced at one of the main access points to Italy's Dolomite mountains in a bid to tackle overcrowding during the summer tourism season.

The area has been designated a limited traffic zone (ZTL) meaning vehicles can only enter with a pass valid for one hour, which can be collected for free at information points along the road to the pass or via a smartphone app, OpenMove.

The restrictions will be in place Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm until August 31st, and apply to motorcycles and cars with only a few exceptions: electric vehicles, public transport, and vehicles of people who work or are staying within the area.  read more https://www.thelocal.it/20180724/dolomite-mountains-ztl-traffic-restrictions-overcrowding-tourism

Last time they did this it had the potential to impact my trip.  It wasn't clear to me then or now whether its really a zone of limited traffic, a ZTL is used in an Italian city, or just a traffic volume restriction on one road (e.g. Sella Pass).  If its just a restriction on one road, its no big deal as there are many roads to the same places in the Dolomites.
