2016 Griso 8V Rollerization needed?
« on: September 26, 2018, 02:16:08 PM »
Hi Folks ,my son is interested in a 2016 Griso that is for sale locally. The owner told him that the 2016 is not involved in the rollerization issue, that it only involves bikes up to 2012.
Is this correct?
thanks Rick.

From what I understand, 2013 is the year things changed to roller, but that some bikes that year still needed the upgrade.

I think 2014 onward are the years which should come standard with the rollerized setup.

Rollers were a mid-year update. The first batch of 2012s had flat tappets, but mine had rollers. All subsequent years had rollers. No worries with a 2016.

And you won't get one any later.  2016 is the last year the Grisos were manufactured.

In the US they are selling 2017 models.  Could just be trickery, but the dealers, DMV, insurances companies all recognize a 2017 Griso.

I believe the importer changed the VIN plates.  There was excess stock early 2017, but they would have taken a bath if they marketed them as 2016 models.  Moto Guzzi wern't allowed to sell them in the EU, only the rest of the world where they didn't care.

Since it meant more Grisos available, I'm not condemning it.

For all things Griso: http://grisoghetto.com

Check the classified adds, there's a guy selling a low mileage Griso for a little less, it's not the faster Red one though.

The Tucson bike seems a little high on price.

I got mine new left over stock in 2015 for $9400 delivered to my door from Las Vegas, yeah those guys. It's a 2013 and came with rollers. I am very happy with it. The wife not so much.

That's a decent price, but maybe a bit high for a used Griso, although it does have some nice extras.
Some dealers are selling leftover new 2016/17 models at $9995, a thousand more, but also brand new and with full 2 year warranty. It might be well worth checking with Moto International too, they advertise a 2016 red bike at $10,190, but may work you a deal since they're closing shop.

Black and red is the way to go...I think it's one of the best color combos on the Guzzi...love looking at it all day long.

The Griso rides like a charm, takes a bit to get bonded with it, and it reveals character over several rides, not right away...but once in the groove, the bike is amazing and a permanent member of the Guzzi fleet.

What a salesman!   :thumb:

What bank or insurance company actually uses Kelly Blue Book?

Everyone I have dealt with over the years uses NADA.  The NADA on this bike is $8465 full retail.  On the street the bike is worth $7000.

While we are on this topic, what other Guzzi's used the big block than needed a roller upgrade?

In the US, the Norge 8v and Stelvio.

Additionally outside of the US, the 1200 Sport 8v.

Thanks guys, alot of good info, on pricing. I do feel this bike is a little high on price, and the new ones that are discounted with full 2 year warranty are worth considering.
The seller of the Tucson bike seems very motivated, I dont think he has had much response to the add. I am pretty sure there is a little wiggle room in the asking price.

I just bought a new 2017 Grisio.

In my searching, the two best prices I could find (US wide) were in Reno, Nevada and Greensboro, NC.

The closing Seattle dealer was actually higher.  LA had a couple, but were about $750 higher than the Reno & NC ones.

Reno only had the Black Devil, Greensboro had both Silver & red.

I looked for ~3 months for used ones and I am super super happy I bought a new one.  What I was finding, if it was used and reasonable price, it had some issues, or odd history, just a few things off/wrong.  If the bike was in great shape, nothing odd, the price was very high.  All normal stuff here.  But, my new one was about $2K more than a clean used one.  New tires, brakes, 2 yr warranty, etc. etc., well worth the $2K to me.

One negative of new, my bike didn't come pre-installed with all sorts of goodies!     So I gotta spend for an exhaust, windscreen, maybe c-bow and bags, etc whereas if you get lucky you might find a used bike that has some items on it you like.

Good luck in the search and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

The seller says, "There are minor imperfections from a tip over that are barely noticeable (see pictures)." But where in the pictures? I think I see a crease on the gas tank, at the left rear, but I suppose it could be a lighting issue.

Much better if the seller posts pictures with the imperfections circled, or at least states where they are. The seller's decision not to do this is a red flag for me.
