NGC Small bike market getting more attention
« on: September 29, 2018, 03:20:09 PM »
Well, for those of us who are thinking smaller bikes are cool we now have more food for thought.  CSC just announced that they are submitting two new bikes for DOT/EPA approval as 2019 models.  At least that's how I read their announcement.  One is a 390cc twin, the other a 450cc single.  Both are Adventure Touring bikes with hard bags, crash bars, etc.  These are in addition to the existing 250cc Adv bike (RX3) and 230cc motocross (TT250) single.  Note that the new bikes each have 5.2 gallon tanks, dual disc front brakes, adjustable suspension,  and ABS.  Here's a comparison chart:

No prices yet.  I suspect these imports will have to deal with our current China tariff dispute.

I was hoping it would be an air cooled single with a kick start.
Oh well,.....

That's exactly what the TT250 is.  Hey, it even has a carb plus an electric start for when your kicking leg gets tired.

yeah, I was just hoping for a bigger air cooled motor with a kick start for on the road.  Not a fan of water cooled engines for off road, probably fine but I like it simple when things go wrong out in the boonies.

This is pretty interesting.
I have been looking hard at the Himalayan to do what I want as a reasonably light weight dirt road bike. Yesterday on a whim I stopped by a local multi-bike dealership and came across a used Honda CRF250 Rally, I had no idea they existed but immediately realized I needed it.
Both the Rally and the Himalayan have similar horsepower numbers but they make it at different places, and the Honda is almost 100 pounds lighter.
Now you've given me a third alternative, the extra few horses in the upcoming bikes are attractive. I'll have to wait and see how they come out after prices are announced.
