Kali Apex Helmet or Bell Revolver- any opinions?
« on: December 03, 2018, 09:38:52 AM »
I have decided to go with a full face helmet. This Kali Apex helmet is intriguing. Has anyone put one on?  Can you you give some pros and cons?

My other choice is the Bell Revolver Evo.

Both are lightweight. Looking for quite and comfy.

Got a link to the Kali?  I'm familiar with the Bell.  In my opinion, someone else's advice on what helmet fits YOU best is meaningless.  After looking at Bell and Shoei full-face/modular Among others), I went with a Nolan 104.  It fit my head shape and size and had the features I wanted.  I didn't need anyone elses' opinions on the fit or function, since nobody else has my head.  I'd suggest going to a few UJM superstores and trying on the offerings.  The proper helmet for you will recommend itself.

Just wondered about wind noise and general fit and finish for comfort. Completely understand my head has it’s own mellen shape.

FWIW, the fit of the helmet combined with the aerodynamics of the bike make all the difference with wind noise.

I had the original Bell Revolver. I considered it no worse than other sub-$200 modulars I've had, better than some. I read reviews on the Evo when it came out, and I recall noting that they seemed to have addressed some of the shortcomings of the original. I no longer recall what exactly those shortcomings were, but they were nothing unexpected for a helmet in that price range.

What I do remember, which appears to have NOT been addressed, is the position/operation of the sun visor mechanism. While it works fine, I found that when doing a left head check, the visor lever would hit my shoulder, causing the visor to come down about halfway. This was on a Cali, so I wasn't leaned over or tucked in any way.

Of course YMMV on something like this, but for me it resulted in more than one aborted lane change, especially when it happened at night!

If you can try one on in a shop, do so while wearing your bulkiest riding jacket and simulate a head check - on a bike if possible.
