I have a 74 Bennell 2c that i got in trade that I want to put back on the road, the headers and mufflers are of course pitted really bad but are solid. It would cost more to have the pipes chromed then the bike is worth, so I'm thinking some kind of Hi heat coating that is close to chrome or maybe a gloss black? Anybody with have any experience doing this?

I think ceramic coating is a popular choice for exhausts. I think it can be have both a matte and a gloss finish - most 70's and 80's Italian bikes had either chrome or matte black exhausts.

I had an exhaust ceramic coated by "jet hot". I went with the closest finish they had to chrome. It looks more like aluminum or tin foil. Fine for a sportbike, but looks like ass on a classic. On a vintage bike I'd go with flat black.

The only thing I've painted exhausts with is pot belly black/wood stove paint. It works but its normally a matt black finish so not really what you are after.

Google “Cerakote” and see if there’s a place local to you that does it. Tons of different colors, and it’s not very expensive. I’ve done several exhausts, and it hold up extremely well.

I have had several black exhaust systems ceramic coated semi gloss black. The downside is the black ceramic coating will easily scratch until the exhaust has been run through several heat / cool cycles. I have found the chrome like ceramic finish is much more durable.

I Have the VHT paint, in flat black on the head pipes of my Lemans IV, and on the RZ 350 expansion chambers. Its been at least 2 years, and holding up well. Spilled gas didnt seem to affect it.I have not tried any other colors, though. Its a thin paint so a few coats work best.
The local chain auto parts store, carries a selection, and I like the convenience of buying it local, and doing it myself.
