Moto Guzzi going RACING again?!?
« on: January 18, 2019, 06:21:39 AM »
Saw this on Facebook this morning...requires more research... (anyone?)  :thumb:

Is that white bike a *NEW* Le Mans perhaps?

That's what I was thinking. Didn't we have mention of a series?

Will this get customers racing to the dealers?

Moto Guzzi Fast Endurrance. Kitted V7s in a single-maker series.

P.S. "The Trophy will involve two-rider teams on Moto Guzzi V7 III Stone bikes fitted with a specific kit, the same for everyone of course, to ensure maximum equilibrium and enjoyment." Sounds like a good time.

I saw it in Milan at EIMCA.  I liked it - it had an adjustable fork which i asked about but no one there from Guzzi had a clue...Lol

Thank you for sending the link, Moto.
Somewhat tantalizing. Many of us hope for a fresh start with a sport bike.
Scrolling through the MG product line anyone unfamiliar w/MG would think it is limited to V85, V7 III - 2 versions, V9 & a big cruiser. If you are aware of the several current big block sport and touring models not seeing them raises questions. Is it just another yawn from Piaggio? Aprilias' Concept RS660 is featured, including its extensive promotional blabber.  R3~

Single front brake?

Will the bike be fast enough to warrant a second brake and the extra weight with it?

I love the idea of 1 make racing series, especially on bikes that people generally don't think of as racers. the AMA 883 series & the BMW cup come to mind.

Single front brake?

Why the question?  I can activate the ABS on my Carbon with a single front brake.  Add a second one to activate the ABS that much faster?

Get the wieght transfer right and with a sticky tyres you can probablly use ever bit of the single front disk, two will also help reduce fade.

I like it, although not likely we’ll see them this side of the ocean. I believe it was developed by the guys at Guareschi Moto, same guys who campaigned the MGS-01 in Europe

I think the conventional wisdom on single/dual discs is that there’s no difference on the first stop.  On subsequent stops, the duals will fade less because there’s twice as much rotor area.  Don’t know if this is true for the 800lb cruisers, though.  More mass to decelerate = more heat generated.

Might fade not be a realistic possibility when pushing even a V7 to its limits in a race series?

If they are running on short tight tracks which would make sense and the V7 is a relatively heavy bike compared to other race bikes ie 300 series, supermoto etc. One of the tracks local to me is 2.4kms long with three very hard stops in it witin a 70ish secound lap.

If everyone is running the same, which they are, so what if they only run a single disk?

Like everything else in a spec series,  it comes down to who can manage their equipment the best, setup, and rider talent.

Uh because brake fade = failure

Failure is not acceptable under race conditions.

Single disk does not mean automatic brake fade.  There are a host of variables that are within the control of the team and rider.    Brake fade still happens under extreme conditions encountered in many racing series. Granted it’s not nearly as feared with today’s advanced breaking systems as it was years gone by,  however the racer that can save his/her brakes by skill often has a real advantage.

For example if you jump on your binders diving super deep into the corners you might begin to encounter fade, were I might go a little easier on the clamps and avoid fade. You might pass my ass by having more guts to push harder or you might fry the brakes and let me sail by three corners later!   I’m just saying a racer must understand and learn to work with the equipment they have, and if they all have the same equipment it’s that much easier to see who is the better racer.

Let's look at this thing another way....

... Is there a road race series, with equal weight or HP that has a single front disc?!?

I don't know the answer... I'm curious.

All that said, I will repeat my desire for duals on everything.... As much as I love our V7s, I still wish they had them despite any rational argument that suggests they don't need them. So I'm obviously biased.

All depends what you think is important. Advancing the overall technology or proving how fast you can punt an obsolete piece of shit around a loop of tarmac.
