I'll be 72 in Feb. I haven't ridden since say 2012 due to unknown illness(es?). I keep the bike running and have done some work on it. At one time I couldn't even work on it.
This August I saw a new doc and she found a number to issues that she is now treating me for.
I haven't felt this good in years and I have only been on treatment about 2 months. She said I would not "feel good" until next March.
I am not ready for prime time but I continue to progress and if this continues at the same rate I am now improving I just might be back on the Mille sometime next spring or summer. But I am not going to believe it till it happens. I have been through too many tests and treatments that haven't worked. But this is by far the best I have felt in a long long time. So I plan on riding again at this ripe age of 72 if I am lucky. I'll have to do some careful relearning for sure. I still have a lot of strength to regain. Fingers crossed.
BTW my first car was a 62 Studebaker Lark. Bought it for $40 in 1972. Never got it running as winter in central Illinois without a garage is a bitch. So I found a running Ford Falcon. I always wanted a Studebaker Hawk.

I thought I'd responded to this back when it first appeared, but I went thru all the responses & didn't see one from me. Did you pick up my age from my profile? Anyway, I turned 73 last April 4th. Trying hard to prevent my mind writing checks my creaking, popping, aching body can't cash.
Speaking of average ages, we had 15 at our monthly Virginia Guzzi Riders lunch Saturday....on a bitter cold day. 4 bikes, a V11 Sport, an SP, a Nevada, & a Triumph. With younger generation Nate & Keri Jones and baby Summer (2 1/2) in attendance we had a CONSIDERABLY younger average age than usual. It was great.

I had a 57 Studebaker..

When I started my stone sculpture apprenticeship, my "official" job description was Studebaker mechanic as we danced around Union politics.  Gary had just started restoring this 55 Speedster.  What a gorgeous machine.  Finished it and started on a 57 Golden Hawk before I was laid off in 03.  Both cars came out great and showed well.  Hemming did multiple articles, including this one on the 55.  https://www.hemmings.com/blog/article/chrome-improvement/. The 57 has been sold, but he still has the 55 and I still wear a Studebaker patch on my stone apron.

Posted before iirc but will again- I'm 52.

I am also a Studebaker lover. i had a '50 and a '59 pickup. i wrecked the '59 and swapped the engine and drivetrain into the '50. far better trucks than anything from the big 3. The 259 V8 was a very depenable and durable engine.

67.  In complete denial.  :thumb: Honestly, I am so impressed with the collective wisdom of the contributors and willingness to share and teach on this forum. As an example, just look at the recent threads of older stereo equipment and history of Ford & Ferrari. Excellent! Inspirational that so many are still actively engaged with the sport and still riding.  As an "older" rider said to me many years ago, "Ya gotta have another reason to get up in the morning except to pee."
If you can stay mentally engaged you drag the physical along with it.

About like a 55 Chevy.  There is only so much you can do with log wagon technology. It was sturdy and reliable, though..

56. Hard to imagine I am bringing down the average. Never owned a Studebaker. First car was a 71 Toyota Corolla I paid $350 for. Did some body work (poorly), paid a friend $50 to paint it, sold it for $750. That led me into the auto business.

Going on to 72. Multiple trips per year out of state probably no longer in the future. But hope to keep up local  rides and maybe an overnighter or two.
