Extend the inner rear fender of a Cali Vintage (or others)?

I was thinking about extending the inner rear fender to avoid dirt in the area of gearbox and battery.
The rear fender ends at the same height as the battery baseplate, I think it should be longer.
Has anybody already done this. e.g. by using rubber or...?

I have a Ducati 907ie and they use a flexible rubber sheet approx 5" wide with a slight fold to connect the swingarm to the inner fender. Works well.

I had not noticed that, Jan. Perhaps I'll add a mudflap to the front of the rear mudguard...

Maybe it is not a good idea ...a piece of e.g. rubber will touch the swingarm an could grind off the powdercoating/paint (the Calvin frame is powdercoated).

I mounted a rubber cloth two years ago on my V7 II. Easy to mount and good protection.

I couldn“t get hold on good quality tape for rubber/metal.
The one I bought did not work.
So I decdided to go for polymer adhesive.
Maybe I cannot remove protective rubber anymore but for now it works
