Ok. So my bike is out of warranty for some time now. I developed a leak believe it or not on both headgaskets that i attribute to my poor now closed dealer experience. I tried retorquing with the values on this site that were provided. Still leaks. Carefully checked fill levels.

Im a cheapskate.....so i plan i doing this myself. Nearest dealer is in Austin. I bought headgaskets from mg cycle. Advice? Things to watch out for? Any specialty tools? Thinner socket for back engine bolt?

Thanks in advance. I read everything i can dig on here before posting. So if i missed something please bring it to my attention.

Im thinking this looks pretty simple.

Cheapskate! What cheapskate? You paid good money for those fancy gaskets, didn't you? You didn't cut up some secondhand blotting paper (remember that stuff), did you. It's not as if it's an MZ. You're good to go.

You have found Pete Roper's post on re torquing the heads? Yes? I don't know about the II, but some V7s have an o-ring on one of the rear studs - watch for it & if there, remember which stud it goes back on, take a photo or 3.

Take your time then do again at 600 miles. U can bet the dealer didn't.

I wrote this tutorial on torquing the headgaskets on the early V7 bikes. It might have a good tip or two.

Thank you that's handy on the photos. I will keep you posted. I didn't see anything about an o ring on the v7ii but its possible i missed it.

Well i looked again and the darn thing is there, its just really small on the parts catalogue. GU61027200 if anyone is interested. Thanks glad you brought it up.

I recall Richardson in Guzziology said smallblocks were prone to leaking at this joint, i.e. between the cyl and the block. I'm talking about the base gasket. He recommended a specific gasket sealer as the best one for this problem; Permatex Super 300. I've used it for this, and it worked for me.

Richardson said: during manufacturing a drilled stud hole can break into an oil passage, causing base gasket leaks. The fix is to clean the hole, seal stud with Loctite, and reassemble w Permatex Super 300 on the gasket. I refer you to Guzziology for photos and details.

Be out of pocket for a while LA State Rally then Cedarvale, but happy to assist when I get back. If you run into problems while I'm rallying, feel free to call because I'll be hanging out with a bunch of guizziti that have a lot more wrenching experience than me. Then of course there is always Charlie Semore just down the block he'd be glad to help as always.
You're becoming quite the Guzzi mechanic so I'm sure you'll have no problems.

Like I told you when we first met, Guzziti help Guzziti, this forum is a prime example.

Alright i left the base gaskets alone. It leaked from the base a bit when i took off the heads. I used permatex on the headgaskets both sides. Learned permatex 300 and aviation permatex are the same thing. (Im a novice)

I torqued both sides according to the numbers provided. So hopefully that will do it. Crossing my fingers the base gaskets wont leak. Was a bit of mess but cleaned it up and adjusted the valves.

Loved the tool provided davedel44 for valve adjustment.

Right now im cleaning my headers from rust. That beautiful salt air.

The bike is all back together. My exhaust gaskets had disintegrated. Replaced those. Tightened everything up. So far so good no leaks.
