I'm going to change the electric petcock on my 2001 jackal to a manual. I'm thinking it's a straight swap but starting to think I remember someone saying maybe the outlet of the manual is smaller and thus may not flow enough fuel. I'm sure one of you folks can assist. Thank you in advance.

The pump has pretty good suction, it will even suck the electric valve open.
Why not do a flow test on your manual one.

FUEL CIRCUIT From the Efiman document
The electric pump draws fuel from the tank and sends it through a filter to a manifold equipped with feed branches to the injectors. A pressure regulating valve maintains steady fuel pressure by bleeding excess fuel back into the tank.
Electric fuel pump
This is a roller positive displacement pump with the motor submerged in the fuel. The motor is a permanent magnet carbon brush type. When the impeller is turned by the motor, the fuel is moved from the intake orifice to the delivery port. The amount of fuel is determined by the rollers which adhere to the outer ring while the motor is turning. The pump has a check valve to prevent the fuel circuit emptying when the pump is not running. It is also equipped with an overpressure valve which short-circuits the delivery when the pressure is over 74 psi to prevent the pump motor from overheating.
Delivery: 26.5 gal/hour at 44 psi with 12V power supply. The pump draws about 4.5 amps.
Note: We recommend strict cleanliness whenever the hoses are installed or removed, or when work is done on the system.

You could also see how much current the pump draws Before/After it will go up if the pump is struggling, poke your ammeter into the relay socket, I would guess anything below 5 Amps is ok, it will draw nearly 9 Amps if the filter plugs off. Liquid cooled pump lol

Personally I like the electric petcock but thats just me.

I did that years ago. I forget which petcock and where I got it, but it was straight bolt on with no flow issues.

It was a model that uses a valve that screws shut from the bottom, not one of those 1/4 turn shut off valves.

I made some calculations some time ago when swapping in an electric petcock for the manual one on my T3. Along the way I measured the flow through the manual petcocks and calculated the flow needed to support certain assumed mpg values at particular speeds. I suppose some of that could be of help in comparing your measured flow with my results. So, here you are (click to enlarge):

Yup that looks like what I used too.

Only complaint is it isn't as fast and easy to shut off as a 1/4 turn valve type, but there isn't much of a reason to turn it off often.

I just swapped the MG cycle one onto my cali stone. Hose outlet was the same size. I did need to replace the hose though, becouse the angle of the barb on the petcock was different then the electric one. The old hose was too short. The valve on mine works a little hard.. But it is brand new. I would like a basic 1/4 turn one.. but im happy with this one.

While the tank is off I'm going to replace all the fuel hoses anyway. It's past time for this.

About a year ago, I bought a manual petcock from MG Cycle, (about $40), and installed it on my Centauro. No issues....

The main reason is that if you are out on a road trip, and the solenoid FAILS on the electronic petcock...you are dead in the water!

Not necessarily - as noted above, a healthy fuel pump will draw fuel through it. Not a good situation, but it will.

I replaced a lot of the ones on mine. i wasnt going to do that one though. :) It needed to be done, becouse the old one leaked.

I just HATE things that LEAK...especially on a motorcycle!! New MG Cycle Fuel Valve coming!!

I should be more clear. It leaked past the valve. Not on the ground. Normally it wasnt a big issue, but every time I pulled the tank, fuel was leaking out of it. That along with the chance of failure, made me bring it up toward the top of the to do list last winter.

in a pinch while on the road I used a bolt(13mm??). I split the electric petcock and just used the bolt with a sealer. Used it like that for a couple years before going to back to the electric version and eventually switch it out to a manual.

Well, I installed my third MG Cycle manual fuel valve ("petcock") yesterday.

I Flogged the Centauro for a 50 mile shake down run...no leaks last night or this morning. "Dry as a bone...Ahhhhhhhh!!!!:"

(As it should be...). Hopefully this one will last more than 5 months.

I wish PINGEL made a petcock for Moto Guzzi...but they don't...(Harley's only). Those are some high quality fuel valves!
