Injector questions: 2003 California

I just bought my first Guzzi, a 2003 California, which has been sitting for the better part of a decade. I’m having trouble getting it started. The engine turns over but will not run. A bit of starter fluid and it comes to life for a couple seconds. I’ve narrowed it down to the injectors through the following steps.

1.remove & clean the gas tank which was in rough shape
2. Replaced fuel pump, filter & fuel lines.
3. Checked for spark (good)
4. Checked injector wires (good)
5. New battery

I have pulled the throttle body out of the right side and could not get the injector to activate when I put 6v to it. I’m pretty sure they are bad. I’m wanting to go ahead and replace the injectors.. unless someone knows another step to try to fix this.

That being said, here is the question I have. I want to replace the injectors, but they are.. pricey. Are there other injectors I could use instead of the OEM GUZZI ones?

You might want to get Guzzidiag set up. I think it can tell you whether the injectors are working properly or at least that they are getting the right pulses. Could be the throttle position sensor causing the problem.

I used a hood light and both sides light up appropriately. I’ll check out Guzzi diag

1. Do you hear the fuel pump run when the ignition switch is turned on?
2. Have you pulled a fuel line at an injector, and turned on the key, and had a good bit of fuel pump out?
3. Pull an injector if you can, and hold it in your hand. You should feel it getting pulsed when you crank the motor.
4. GuzziDiag can manually test fire the injector, which may help. A cheap cable and a laptop is needed.
5. Actually having an injector plug up, is rare, but not unhear of.


I don't know what they cost, but there are services that clean them.

Fuel pump works and provides pressure
I’ve pulled a throttle body and tried activating the injector manually with 6v to it, but I don’t hear/see/feel anything moving.

Would you happen to know which cable I need for a 2003 California?

The cables can also be had on Amazon. But sometimes they don't work, I got lucky I guess.

If your sure it's the injectors, you might try injectorrx.com in Houston.

I had the same problem on a Cali that sat for a long time. Turned out to be the injector/Ecu relay, I believe F6.
You can swap relays around as they are the same or better yet, replace all of them. They are cheap and notoriously bad on older Guzzi’s. Get em here: DPGuzzi.com and good luck getting it started.

Easy to check what ^^^  he said   ^^^    Relays.

Also check the fuse holders and relay sockets.  The fuse might be fine but not making good contact.

As general rule, clean all electrical connections with contact cleaner.  Probably good idea to change the relays but at least have one "good relay" that you can mix and match into different sockets to trouble shoot.

Can't say this will fix it but it's a likely culprit and easy to check.

motion pro now makes a simple home mechanic fuel injector cleaner. look it up and find the video on it.
did u clean the screen above the electric fuel tap.

2003. He easily has a pump inside the tank model. No tap.

But then he mentioned having fuel pressure and flow.
