V85 Mud guard
« on: October 27, 2023, 03:58:50 PM »
Thanks to egschade I got this one mounted.
Can’t ride as it’s not nice outside but I think it’ll be a big improvement over the high mounted fender alone.

Hi Inditx, can you provide info on that mudguard?  How has it been working out?  I like the similar "pyramid" version but for $170, I'd like a cheaper alternative.

Another alternative is the fender from a Caponord 1200 Rally, part #2B0024475.  Bolt-on.  At least, that worked on my 2020 version (can't imagine it has changed).

I had the Caponord fender on my '22, but lost it in the deer strike.  I don't think I will replace it.  It really didn't keep debris off the engine.  Adding a "fenda extenda" to the Caponord fender is just "too much" for my tastes.

The new 2024+ V85TT front fender should be available some time next year and looks like it would fit pretty well. Seems like it's essentially the back half of the caponord fender.

I put the extender on the Caponord fender.  Looks or no, it makes it useful.
I get it, though.

It works but IF the 2024 front fender fits and isn’t an arm and a leg, I’d probably opt for that on looks alone.
I like a low front fender personally.

Yeah, I have the pyramid one and it seems to keep the stator cover pretty clean all things considered. At a certain point there's only so much any fender can do without being unreasonably large ..

Maybe it is just the old school enduro rider in me but, why not just use a mudflap?  I fashioned one from 1/8" sheet rubber for my first V85.  It worked so well that I did it again for my second one.  In about 25k collective miles on the two bikes there is not one bit of damage on either engine.  The cost was probably about $6.

So, when you stop that bike after a ride and turn the handlebars to full lock to walk away from the bike is the mudflap sitting against the exhaust header?

Is there anything behind there that should be getting more air flow?

Air flow has never been an issue and I just went out to the garage to check the clearance.  At full lock there is about 1 inch of clearance between the mudflap and the exhaust.

I had to raise this one slightly to get the right look.

What tires are you running? I'm running the stock Michelin Anakee tires with no rub on the Caponord front fender.

I'm not sure of the year or if there is a different fender version. This is what I bought. It is working (has clearance) with the '23 stock Michelin Anakee. Like Huzo said, you need to raise it a bit, it's a fairly easy fix.

Michelin Pilot 5’s
It wasn’t a clearance issue, just the radius was wrong so had to go up 20mm

Could you post a picture of it with the Extenda fender?
