Tell me why this is a bad idea…

We all know that accomodation is a goodly percentage of the cost of a multi day/week/ month trip.
There is an undeniable buzz that comes with meeting a WG’er in a foreign country.
This forum exists due to the input financially and voluntarily from the membership.
I want to ride my Norge over the Golden Gate Bridge.
None of the above statements could be said to be false and so in light of that, here’s the thing..
If I arrived on the East Coast and collected my Norge, I have a standing offer from a high profile member to rest up if required at one of his homes and head off as my whim dictates.
 Now, if I got a map of North America/Canada/Alaska, I could plan a trip starting from say, North Carolina…(?) and head off across the U.S. East to West, zip across to San Francisco then turn right. Keeping the sea on my left, I could go up into Canada then over the top and down the East Coast back to where I started.. It really is not that far, I did a lot more than that on a CT110 Honda.

But this is where it changes.

If anyone wanted to provide basic accomodation they could indicate their willingness on this thread and they would go on a list, at that point I’d get a marker pin and stick it in the map.
Now.
If and when there are enough offers of accomodation, I could ship my Norge over and hop from place to place.
But here’s the best bit…
The money that I WOULD have spent on accomodation, I could donate to the forum….
I don’t lose out because I wouldn’t know any of you without this forum.
Y’all would not lose out because the money goes toward forum costs.
Heaps of rollicking good times.
I’d hope that when I got to places like San Francisco, there may be one or more guides to escort me into the city and over the Bridge.
I reckon it’d be beaut….

50 miles SE of the Golden Gate Bridge.  We have a simple but comfortable home.  We have hosted many world travelers here.  Some not even on Guzzi.  Some barely able to communicate with English.  And, as you know from our recent meeting in Mandello del Lario, I like beer.  I get the same or better treatment when I'm able to travel around the globe, so it is my way of payback.

Headed down the coast or back up I am just south of the Peace Arch crossing into BC.

We have a 5th wheel we use as a guest bedroom when it is not on the road. I don't know when you might be coming but the National Guzzi Rally in Oregon in June. I am about 5 hours fron S.F., Quincy Ca, the North end of the Sierras.

Some years ago my sister, her family, and I rented a house on Coffin Neck in far down east Maine.
Big timber-framed pile - no expense was spared: slate roof, all copper plumbing including
the waste pipes, big porches, gourmet kitchen, observatory - the works.

We went on a little excursion to Quoddy Head State Park - the easternmost point in the
US, and site of the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and some spectacular hiking trails. On the way in we, (I!) noticed
a few typical Harleys, and a scruffy Triumph Tiger with Utah plates off to the side. The weather
was misty and cool. On the way back to the van, I noticed that the rider of the aforementioned
Triumph was astride his machine. So, I went over to chat.

"You're a long way from home, eh?"
 "Yep - Brisbane, Australia, mate!"

We chatted for a few minutes. He enquired about local campgrounds, and I couldn't really help the fella,
as I don't live in that part of the state.

I returned to the van, and mentioned the situation. I don't know what possessed me, but I said, " We've
got lots of room, why don't we invite him for the evening?" My sister immediately replied, "Let's do it! Quick,
get him before he rides off!" And so we made the acquaintance of Mr. Glen Cochrane of Brisbane, Australia!
He was absolutely delighted with the invitation, and I couldn't tell which he liked more -  the accommodations
out of the weather, or the laundry facilities!
He'd bought the bike unseen on the internet, and flew to Utah to collect it and begin his tour of North America.
We were in touch for several years - which reminds me that I've got to email him some holiday greetings.

All of THAT said, by all means let us know if you're in the area. I have an extra bed, and you're welcome to it
for a day or two. I've also got workshop facilities if your mount needs a little fettling. Of course, it wouldn't take
much arm twisting to get me to ride some local roads with you as well.   :-)

I might be able to muster up some armadillo gumbo and of course a good cigar.

This has somewhat exceeded my expectations guys, thankyou one and all.
It’s starting to form into a good idea.
I considered coming and riding a borrowed bike from Dan in Charlotte NC, but I reckon I’d feel somewhat bereft at trip’s end if I don’t bring my Norge.
Sort of like having a shower with my raincoat on, today I’ll get a map and some marker pins.

Pete, I will get you squared away upon your arrival on the east coast. We can make plans when you figure out where the Norge will be landing. If by sea, Morehead or Beaufort NC, has international ports or if by air, Charlotte or Winston Salem would be the best destination.
This would put you traveling across the country east to west of course. You can plan you stops according to the sights you wish to visit.
