Norge wind screen won’t go down
« on: December 16, 2023, 12:03:27 PM »
2009 Norge. Wind screen is all the way up. When I hit down button I hear a click but screen doesn’t go down.

I have the screen off and the motor loose from the plate that it mounts.

Looking for recommendations on where to start with diagnosis. Should there be 12v at one of the switch wires?

I took the motor out and it bench tested ok. There is only a positive / red and a negative / black that go to the motor.

Does the switch simply allow 12v to go to one side of the motor?

Well you have got me there…
Mine IIRC has one input and two outputs, hence the possibility of doing what I ultimately did.

I found a Norge print and the power screen uses two 5 prong relays to control the direction.
They have the grounds connected to 87a on the relays (normally closed), 87 is connected to 12 VDC (normally open).
The wires from the relays, terminal 30 (common) go to the motor.
When you power to raise the screen the up relay is powered and connects one motor lead to 12 VDC (87). The other relay remains unpowered and has the other motor lead connected to ground through 87a. power down and the opposite happens.
Find the relays and everything you need to diagnose will be there.
The screen is top left of the print.

You can fault trace like this.
Unplug the motor connecter, install a meter red lead to battery positive and put the black lead in one of the motor terminals, harness side, and you should read battery voltage. Move the black lead to the other motor terminal and you should also read battery voltage, test with key on.
If all is good there put the meter leads in the motor connector harness side, connector unplugged and operate the switch. You should see 12 VDC in one direction and -12 VDC in the other. I say 12VDC but it will be battery voltage.

I’m guessing you won’t get a reading in the down position. Go to the relay and check the ground at relay terminal 85, hopefully they labeled the relay, also test terminal 86 because sometimes they don’t follow the standard. If the ground is good check for voltage at terminal 86 with the button pressed and you should read battery voltage.
Do the relay terminal tests with the relay unplugged and back probing the connector.

The fault can be in the wiring but a guess would be either the button or relay.

If the screen went up and now won’t go down you can swap the relays and see if it now goes down, if not focus on the switch. This should shorten the diagnostic time.

Mine won't stay all the way down?   When I start The screen rises slighly when I need it in the lowest position since I have a CalSci Medium screen on it... Found it it cannot be turned off on major circuit as I remember. Different problem here.

I have a 2006.  The problem was the worm gear.  Had to replace the entire unit.
