Rims for jackal?

I know I asked a question about tubeless rims for the jackal a few weeks ago. But wondering are there any replacement rims for this bike. It is now running very well, but the rims are rusty. So…. Wondering if there is a way to save this bike by getting new rims.

Can't the Jackal run the same rims as the V11EV.
Those on my '98 EV are aluminum, spoked and tubeless..

I am almost sick thinking that my bike may be dead because the rims are bad.

Unless the rims are so rusty they're in danger of failing, then why would they render your bike dead? If it's just a cosmetic issue, paint or powdercoat them if you can afford other wheels.

I'm currently working on a 2000 Jackal - sat for 15 years near the Inner Harbor of Baltimore. It's rims are rusty as well, but a few minutes with 0000 stainless wool and Turtle Wax chrome cleaner has them looking great again.

My Jackal rims were pretty ugly after a few years of riding winters. We hand sanded them, then taped off the spokes and painted them with wheel paint.

Well they are pretty rusty inside the rim. But maybe not rusted through all the way yet. Wish I would have snapped a picture. I may have to peel the tires back off and go at em with steel wool.

I treat the rust around the spokes with a rust converter like Ospho before I paint so I don’t have to disassemble the wheel to treat the corrosion.

I got a set of the tubeless spoke EV wheels for my Jackal.  Works great.  You'll need a spacer for the front and to clear the swing-arm go from a 140 to a 130 on the rear.

I swapped to the 130 on my 02 stone's stock wheels anyway. To me anyways, the bike feels a lot more balanced with the 130 over the stock 140. Seems that all the Jackal's, and Stone's wheels rusted inside. I hear it a lot. I sanded, and treated with rust converter, then sealed to make tubeless on mine, and have been problem free for years since.

My stock ones were rusted inside but not too bad.  Cleaned up well enough.

I think it would take a LOT of rot for a rim to fail.

This is the inside of a spare rim I had back in 2012 for my then Kawa KZ650


After removing most of the rust, I decided not to use the rim, because the rust had eaten noticeably into the metal. But instead of just tossing it, I decided to cut it to check how compromised it was. Below, you can see all the gap I managed to open. Now, I am not among the strongest men in the world, but back then I could still dead-lift 500 lbs, so I was not among the weakest, either. 


My non-scientific conclusion: The rim was years away from being significantly weakened. The place(s) to watch, IMO, are the seats for the nipples. If those get weakened enough through rust, you could pull a nipple through the rim.

Thanks guys for all of the replies in this thread. It makes me more confident in riding what I have now and thoughts on how to improve the rims.
