New Morini's at Deep Discount...
« on: June 24, 2025, 03:28:52 PM »
DO NOT want to get started again (please) with opinions on what are now Chinese-made Morini's. Just wanted to bring your attention to some deep discounts on a couple of new 6 1/2's:

https://www.souheganvalleymotorsports.com/search/inventory/usage/New/brand/Moto%20Morini

If I didn't already have a Chinese-made Benelli TNT 300...that I'm totally satisfied with...I'd be considering one.

The naysayers can "POO-POO" Moto Morini's all they want, but I am here to tell you that the fit and finish on these bikes is "EXCELLENT!"

I wonder what the OTD number was on these bikes before the huge discounts and what is now after the discounts. I'd bet it's not a whole lot different.

The $1,124 destination fee is laughable.

.. fee is laughable.
As are all 'murican hidden costs! Apart from some stealers charging a so-called admin/documentation fee, in the UK the price you pay is typically the same as advertised i.e the OTR (on the road) price.

That's just buyer beware as it varies from thousands to nothing.

The Guzzi dealer in Accident MD charges what they list plus a $75 doc fee and that's it.

Not to mention everything is negotiable.... Well entertaining big.

Yes, there are a couple of dealers around that sell with no "fluff" fee's like destination, Doc, dealer prep etc but most add on a bunch to the price and that is why I never cared to see how the deal was put together all I care about is the OTD number, it's the only number that matters.

I just realized that the bikes with are biggest discount are 2023's and have the highest destination fee's. Usually dealer prep and destination fee's are the 1st thgins to be removed trying to move NOS. That's what alway struck me a odd that when a bike was new and before the dealers started paying on it they had to charge dealer prep and destination but if the bike sat for 6 months + and they started paying interest to the mothership they all of a sudden could ommit these fee's to move the bike.

To me dealer prep, destination, doc fee's are overhead. They gotta get product shipped in and assemble it to be able to sell it. The dealership is paying shop and/or office staff no matter if they are selling bikes or standing around drinking coffee. They are overhead like insurance, mortgage, utilities etc. I don't want to see these fee's as a line item or especially as an additional fee over and above the cost of the bike. Maybe that's why I don't sell motorcycles for a living???

But I guess the majority of the buying public look at the price especially discounted prices and are blind to the additional fee's. They see a $5,000 bike discounted by $2000 as a $3000 bike not a $3,000 bike with $2,000 in added fee's to total $5,000. Mental masterbation with numbers. Very easy way to get people to spend the same or more money buy putting an item on sale.

I can guarantee the Moto Morinni dealer is not taking a $2,200 to $2,500 loss on a $5,000/$6,000 bike. There cannot be that much profit built into them.

Love the $499 Doc. fee. In Pennsylvania to do a title transfer, new title and registration is about $150 if you go directly to PennDot and you can walk out with eh title in your name that day (if the loan is satified) .Go to a dealership and they will add several hundred dollars on top of the PennDot fee's for "Doc fee's". All they do is fill out the same online paperwork and hit send to forward it to PennDot. Easy money. Just like the 1st service that you get whacked $600 for an oil change.

Most dealers tell little white lies when trying to explain their "doc fee". They will say "the State sets the price and we have no choice, we have to charge it".
When in reality the State does not make them charge a doc fee at all, they only say "IF a dealer chooses to charge a doc fee they must charge the same on every sale". When dealers started the scheme of advertising vehicles for under cost to suck customers in only to discover they added hundreds and sometimes thousands on at the back end of the sale, many States started setting a maximum doc that dealers could charge.

IMO what States should mandate is if a dealer adds any fee they must provide a "dealers fee transparency statement" when quoting or advertising prices to customers that would read something along the line:

"Doc (documentation) fees are not part of licensing, registration, tax, or anything related to the State of WV. it is simply an additional amount a dealer adds to their selling price, as such sales tax is collected as it is part of the purchase. The State of WV does not endorse or encourage this practice but stipulates that any dealer that does choose to add this fee must do the same for every customer. Furthermore the State of WV limits the maximum doc fee a dealer can charge which is $595.

I just paid $895 for freight, $600 for setup (loose mirror,) and $369 for docs. But I got a gorgeous Mandello for $12,900 out the door so I'm not complaining.

When I worked with a Triumph dealer 12 years ago delivery was 495 per bike.  No exceptions.  Not built into the MSRP.
PDI was 175 to the customer per bike.  Took us around 1 1/2 hours to complete including the taking it out of the crate.  The oil was our expense as was a full tank of gas.

Wages, insurance, oil, and such.  It adds up.  Without getting into all the specifics, you'd have to be an idiot to be a GUZZI dealer in the USA.  The good ones, heck all of them, must love the bikes that much.  And, someday, if you get the chance, as a dealer how they get reimbursed for warrentee work by Piaggio.
I guarantee you'd never stand for it ,in your business.

Oh, and when Triumph used to have "Fifteen hundred in free accessories with purchase" or stuff like that it was 750 billed to the dealer (hard cash) and 750 credit for the dealer to apply to ordered accessories.  Think about that.  Dealer pays hard cash and OEM applies credit to their accessory price to the dealer-on which they already make a vig.  Some deal, eh?

Cadre, in Cincinnati, one of the best dealers in the USA, sells the bike for whatever deal you get, plus $800 freight from IT.  It was $600 6 years ago when I bought a v9 from Enzo, now it's 8.  I'm confident that Cadre is using the actual cost or darn close.  Doc fees are, as I understand, largely up to the dealer, anything more than $300 would seem like gouging to me.

In NY when I was there we had to send a person with docs to the DMV.  At least 3 hours and that was a good day.  That's not free.
Yes, we'd batch them when we could.

What paid the persons salary on days or hours they did not go to the DMV or was that an overhead cost?

Does that person even have to go to the DMV anymore or has the computer age caught up and all they have to do is enter the information into the DMV's site and tap the enter key. If this is the case and I'm certain it is shouldn't the DOC fee's have gone down as a dealership no longer needs to physically send a person to the DMV. Or are the fee still the same or increased as its just another way for the dealership to squeeze out a few more dollars out of the sale?

As are all 'murican hidden costs! Apart from some stealers charging a so-called admin/documentation fee, in the UK the price you pay is typically the same as advertised i.e the OTR (on the road) price.

Which is almost always higher than the US price, regardless of the fees, sales taxes and their presentation.

On the other hand, I generally buy used bikes for good reasons, one of which is that I’m dealing with a seller who is less skilled at ripping me off.

Often the bikes themselves are sold cheaper there than here, it's just that their governments take more such as 20% VAT where our sales tax would typically be 1/4 to 1/3 that amount. I like how they advertise the price they sell it for opposed to here where the advertised price can be almost meaningless.

For instance I have been shopping for a new Civic Si and a dealer in Maryland had one advertised in the color I wanted in stock for $31,855 which was msrp including freight. Underneath was "email for your quote". I did so stating this'll be a cash deal and I lived in WV so I'll take care of the documents, title, registration, and taxes myself in WV.

My "quote" came back;

"Your car is allocated to us and should arrive within 3 weeks" They didn't even have it in stock.

Civic SI.                              $34,855 Yep here they just added $3,000 to the price they advertised.
doc and processing fee               700 Added another $700 to the price
MD DMV surcharge.                    150 ?
WV title and plate.                      350 (WV title is $16 plate is $55) Added another $279
WV 6% tax.                            2,163
Your total price.                     $38,218.

I dunno, I've only bought something like a dozen new cars and a dozen new motorcycles. But I've bought Harleys when there were waiting lists. I've bought at least a half dozen first year, high demand models.

And I've never, ever, EVER paid more than MSRP (and normally many thousands less).

And I've never, ever, EVER done business with a dealer who advertised one price and then tried to raise it when I got there.

Nope, no need, there's always someone else. Always ... I mean ALWAYS (at least in the US).

I did not buy it there but many dealers were starting at $2,000-$3,000 over msrp before adding more on top of that in the form of fees. I found a couple that would sell at msrp but they had still had their doc plus overcharged for other things like WV license and title, or insisted on mandatory dealer installed extras. They simply said "we only get a few of these cars a year and we can sell them for this price so we do". That's fine with me, but just advertise them at that price rather than lure a buyer in with a price they have no intention of selling it at.

A local dealer finally agreed to order a 2026 for me at $575 over msrp with no dealer add ons, $575 being their stupid doc. Maybe if I kept shopping around I could have found a dealer that would do a bit better but after weeks of shopping I was tired of playing the game and they are nearby. They just called yesterday and it should arrive in three weeks.
