Dash Disassembly? (for Idiot Light Replacement)

Hi, all.

Can someone please point me to a resource for taking the EV dash apart? I figure I'll check/replace the high beam bulb.

Removing the three 4mm bolts at the bottom and the three 3mm bolts in the plastic "chrome" cover gets you this far, and it's obvious that the T-shaped insert slides back away from the aluminum plate that holds the gauges.



However, the clearances are tight, and I don't want to break/strain cables or connections. It feels like something else might be holding the light assembly to the dash?

ETA: Do the speedo and tach have to come out too?

Helps to take off fairing, disconnect speedo & tach, flip it over and there are screws in holes in T shaped part in center.

Somebody just last week was talking about replacing those with LED. Now might be a good time to consider that.

I was wondering about LEDs too and mentioned the possibility to Curtis Harper, when I called him today.

Funnily enough, he's dealing with an LED-caused problem on a bike that's in the shop currently and advised using original equipment.

That was plenty good enough for me!

You could likely find those bulbs at an auto parts store. There should be a number printed on them, so you should also be able to find them on the bay of fleas and the river site.

Personally I would stick with regular bulbs.

I can't remember if it was the EV series of bikes, but using LED in the dash could cause an issue with the turn signal lights??? I don't remember for sure???

   That bulb is a standard t5 w2x4.6d. check "Super Bright Leds"

I think you're right about that, Tom. There are workarounds, but if the incandescents last twenty-one to twenty-two years, that suits me fine!

IIRC the only ones that I put LEDs in was the low fuel and neutral lights.  I wanted them easier to see during the day with a tinted visor on my helmet.  They would be too bright for the high beam indicator and could be annoying at night.

Wanted to record here that the OEM incandescent bulb is #93450140 superseded to #164634.

And Gregory Bender sells them for .75¢ each!

Just circling back with the resolution. Ultimately, I had success here but probably by doing it a more difficult way...?

The manual (photo added to original post) advises taking the headlight off, which allows better access to the back of the dash panel.

Prior to reading the manual, I'd already started going in through the front and had to use tweezers both to remove and install the bulb down in its plastic "well" (pic in Reply #3).

It was effective but probably a lot more fiddly than it had to be!
