U-joint inspection - Norge
« on: November 29, 2025, 12:58:56 PM »
Figured as I'm just about to turn 60K miles on the Norge I should do an inspection of the rear drive shaft and Ujoint - trying to determine if this has to be lubed with a zerk fitting or is a no maintenance item.

Anyone here remove, inspect or replace their U-joint on the Norge yet?

On a CARC bike, #1 is inspect and grease the swingarm bearings and the bearings in the shock linkage.
Not much to do with the u-joint and shaft.
Good judgement comes from experience.
And experience. That comes from poor judgement.

Yes...that part has been done, and all in good shape there.  Specifically inquiring about the Ujoint however here.  Thanks.

Non serviceable. If you did the swing arm bearings and put fresh grease on the splines, not much else to do. Did you do a visual and inspect when you had the swingarm off for the bearings?

I first had mine off at 90,000 km and the splines were dry.
I did it again at around 200,000 km and the grease was still surprisingly good and I could see no real wear in the joint, but it cannot last forever.

Did you see any wear on your U-joints at the time of both inspections?  Those look standard, even if not with zerk fittings.  The shaft is sold with both u-joints, but I see no reason why those cannot be replaced if they have any play on them.

When I had the bearings greased, there was no play in the U-joints, but it's been several years, so I figure 60K is a good milestone to inspect again.
