Moto guzzi v9 Ecu bricked?
« on: November 30, 2025, 07:53:51 AM »
I saved the .bin from my guzzi v9 2016, then i switched off the lambda’s with tunerpro and tried to write it back.
The original bin file got erased and the upload started but at almost the end the starterengine suddenly started turning so i turned of the Ignition switch. Realising something went wrong i tried to write the original bin file back but No connection is possible because everytime i switch the ignition to ON the starterengine gets activated. What can i do?

I found this some time ago. I don't think it's you ECU model, but it might help if your is bricked:

From Ed AF1
"one trick I know of on the Aprilia 7SM and using GD is to go into the GD writer,

go in and start to write a new map to the bricked ECU...pick any map, doesnt matter

The trick is to ignore the key on, off instructions.  Have the key off, until after you start the writing process (after clicking all the oks to start it).   Then turn on the key, and that seems to connect to the ECU in boot mode right when it gets power, and starts a fresh delete and re-loading of the map.  A fresh full reload is all it needs to be fixed."

Hi Tom,
I have tried this. First write, ignition on then OK, second time, write, OK, ignition on. And a third time, ignition on, write OK.
The writer says ignition is off. So no connection.

You might try checking your fuses, unlikely, but maybe? Is the kill switch set to run? Been there.

Hoe do i contact Beetle?

Go to Griso.org, his e-mail address is there.  Mark is a great guy.

I'm not an expert, but having used GD with all the reader and writer tools for the last 10 years, I'm pretty sure the system will backup the old map/bin file before writing a new. You also had to read and download the stock map before you modified it with Tuner Pro. Are you sure there is not a copy? Check the folder with file manager.

If you truly do not have a stock map/binfile, I bet Mark (Beetle) or someone on the forum has one and can send it to you. I only have maps for a V7ii, V7iii, and several CARC bikes.

Always a good idea to keep a copy of the stock map, or if you make changes, save the new file to a different name. I messed around with Tuner Pro, but didn't try to modify one myself and use it. The maps are specific to the bike. When I started with my Norge, we tried a Stelvio map and a Griso map thinking because it had the same basic ECU and systems it would work, but no dice.

If I'm reading correctly, when you tried to upload the new map the engine tried to start on its own?  That sounds almost impossible to me, as the map and starter circuits are completely separate, but....

If I were in your shoes, I would:

1. Disconnect BOTH battery leads and connect them. Then while connected turn the ignition key on to completely clear out the ECU.
2. Reconnect battery and connect Guzzi Diag and load the original or the stock V9 Map with the "Writer" Program.
3. Clear learning parameters and reset TPS.

That may get you going, I've never heard of someone bricking the MUIC3 (or whatever ecu the V9 uses). I have heard of the 1400's getting bricked, but anything is possible.

Be sure to keep us posted.

Hi Bulldog9,
That’s correct, at the end of the upload the engine started on it’s own! (No ignition, only starterengine turned). I didn’t even have to click OK!
I have downloaded the original map so that’s save. Gonna try the procedure you wrote down, I Will keep you informed.

I did al the things you wrote down, still no connection possible. Guzzidiag says “turn ignition on” but ignition is allready ON.
So it’s impossible to reload the original map.

One more thing I would suggest. Try another computer to connect to the bike. With GuzziDiag, I will sometimes not be able to get connected to a bike, try a different bike and all is fine. Go back to the first bike and still can't connect I also have a OBDStar tablet and it would connect to the bike GD wouldn't. I do not understand why this happens.

I also am wondering about the bike cranking over on it's own, I thought I read it wrong.

If Beetle can't help, there is a company called UpMap or the like. They sell a device that connects to the bike and up/down load a new map that they provide. I don't remember the price. "Maybe" it would connect??? Do a search here for the device.

EDIT: Will GD or the reader connect? If either will, you might try reinstalling the writer program. BUT....FIRST save your original map to somewhere that it will be safe. I believe the reader stores the map in it's folder that the reader creates when you install it, not sure. Then reinstall or delete the writer and do a fresh install.

You may have to go into the settings and change the com port. Also, make sure you have the right ECU selected from the menu options. Otherwise there's no way you'll get it to connect.

Are you using an apple demon possessed laptop? Or a Microsoft product?

I know it's possible to connect with an apple product, but most people have problems with them.
