Walk around…? https://youtu.be/W9ulUhJgVwk?feature=shared

When you put a proper headlight on it, and it goes missing, you will find it in my garage.........

I was thinking the other day that being that I turned the V7ii Stornello into a V85 alternative, I should buy a V85 and turn it into a V7 Sport Alternative. Maybe after I sell a couple....... The Stable is over filled.

Is that the one that now has many silver parts instead of black?
Yes.
Engine is next.

Yes.
Engine is next.

Silver looks better!

Although some of the off colors like copper, graphite, or a variant of olive green might also look good.  the old Kal-Gard colors come to mind.

I used some of this on a DR650 790cc cylinder.  Just a touch different from the OEM engine color.

Getting the old stuff off is the thing.
I’d like to get it done with dry ice blasting, the CO2 just melts then gasses off.

Also, speaking with Pete Roper today, he enlightened me in a couple of areas regarding boring and stroking small blocks.
The crank will most usually crash into other metal stuff in there and it becomes impossible to control the crankcase presssure via conventional venting etc..
Just a royal PITA and you hit the limit of a whole lot of parameters.

If this is in fact real there will be a red one at my house.

If this were a real Moto Guzzi, and not an AI dream bike, it would probably list for $18,000-$24,000.

One could build a similar MC a platform, using an 1100 EV, and adding seats, bars, etc from any past Tonti frame machines. I can’t imagine one would need to spend more than $10,000, to create a very nice one.

Put the V85 motor in a V7. Could easily be tuned to make 100 HP or more as an 850. Not superbike territory but at least be able to keep up with 750 Sportbikes. Just for reference the new Norton Manxman makes 206HP with a 4 cylinder 1200 or 103 HP from 600cc. Likely cut into V100 sales thiugh.

So what is the displacement of the current V85 mill and how will it “easily be tuned” to get a 100 horse power figure …?

Hear me out. Keep the same crankshaft, and head and pistons unchanged, but increase the stroke and use longer connecting rods, and taller jugs (cyls). My pea brain says to get to 950, you'd need to increase stroke/length by: (follow my ramble)

The current V85 is an oversquare motor - Bore = 84 mm (0.084 m) Stroke = 77 mm (0.077 m).

If you kept the 84mm bore, and went undersquare and used a 86mm stroke (9mm increase) by using taller Cyls and CRs, you'd be at 953cc.

The only real problem I would see with this is clearance at the case/lower cyl opening for the CR, but if youre making new CR's you can adjust for that. This is the red suspender snapping approach and only requires new 9mm longer Connecting Rods and Cyls. Heck, depending on the length of the CYL sleeve in the jug, you might be able to get away with a 9mm spacer and new CR's.

Keeping with the same insanity, increasing bore to 85mm is more involved, new pistons, remachining heads for larger jugs (maybe) but bumps displacement to 978CC.....

Both are close enough to call it a 1000 and you'd have a torquey little motor, but less potential power at the top end.

I've been round and round with Pete on this years ago, and I respect the man, but don't agree. Neither do I have the machine shop capabilities to do this. But in my mind, a 9mm (.34in) increase in stroke and cyl height isn't a bridge too far, nor is a 1mm increase in bore.

Pardon my geeking out, this is leftover slag from my time building High Powered NA VW/Porsche Type IV motors. If I had the ability and resources, I'd do it. Again,  The ONLY real problem I see here is that the CR's could touch the case where the cyls insert, and properly fashioned CRs could be used to offset that potential.

I know, I know, you will say that the Guzzi Engineers would have done it if possible, but hey, they aren't even able to properly grease swing arm and steering yoke bearings.........

Yeah, but why? the rest of the V7 is not made for that kind of power or speed......

I don't think V7 buyers would be interested in that level of power. I know I wouldn't, my '26 V7 has quite a bit of power. However I haven't been able to see how much passing power it has at 80 or 90 mph. The Mandello had more than I ever used, I had it up to 113 mph corrected on a long line of cars out in the middle of Nevada. Would that much power be a good idea on the V7's frame which wasn't designed for it.

I am talking about a modern LeMans. Not a touring bike. My 50 year old LeMans can handle 130 MPH without flinching with far more primative suspension.
Ducati 851s were making 110 HP over 30 years ago without variable valve timing. The V100 is fine sport touring bike but fairly heavy for a pure sport bike. Why do you think a V7 couldn’t handle 150 MPH?

Pete Roper has said there is no way a modern Guzzi 850 can make a reliable 100plus HP, period  It's amazing they are able to get 80hp out of it.

I think you meant to say the 9mm more stoke has to come from the crank itself (move the crank pin 4.5mm away from center), then shorten the connecting rod by 4.5mm.  IIRC, that is how Powroll used to stroke the Honda single cylinder engines.

I might be misconstruing something.....

How will you increase the stroke if you retain the same crank ?

A stock V85 (853cc) makes about 65 rwhp. It can easily make about 83rwhp with readily available intake, tuning and exhaust mods. That’s a 27% increase over stock which is really quite impressive.

Can it make 100rwhp? Not without significant modifications in its inherent design. These modifications simply aren’t at all readily available. Neither is there anyone building the parts to take the V85 to the 100rwhp mark.

An 853cc V-Twin can absolutely be designed to make 100rwhp. The current Moto Guzzi V85 V-Twin just isn’t among the 100rwhp group.

If the Moto Guzzi V85 engine, transmission, frame, drivetrain etc can’t handle 100rwhp, I’d suggest that’s a design flaw from the start.
