Pitcher..love ghost towns but lead...would you guys have to wear a mask or get a vaccination against lead poisoning?

I used to ride the BULTACO on those chat piles in the 80's Actually that eyeball on the back of my neck has become quite handy.

I saw a corvair dune buggy get swallowed up one day in a crater at the top of a big chat pile. The harder he tried to get out, the faster the chat moved in. He hiked back to the truck.

I'm always more worried about being swallowed up by a sink hole in Picher

The Batfish, (SS-310), a WW II, Balao Class submarine is located in a park in Muskogee, OK for those interested in such things.  It has the distinction of having sunk three Japanese submarines in a 72 hour period late in the War.

Unfortunately, it suffered flood damage last year and needed some repairs.  I need to check to see if it is ready for tours this year before heading down that way.

Cedar Vale Rally

I've never been to it. Is it a good rally? Mosquitoes? Flies? Clean toilets and showers? It's 249 miles from Larned. Seems like every year the weather is bad.

I've only been one time, but I enjoyed it enough to be planning on going back, this year. It's more of a chill campout than a full on rally, which I like. Interesting folks with interesting bikes, swapping stories and sharing some drinks around a campfire sort of vibe. The toilets are decent. Standard campground style. The city built a nice new shower house, a few years back. Overall, I recommend it. Good times.

Good place to visit with long time Guzzi folk as well as newbies.  Held in a classic 100 year old park pavillion. Get spoiled by the people of the town when they bring us eats. Good time.   https://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=102664.0    Larned? Bring Frank when you come...

I won't speak to how wonderful our little gathering in Cedar Vale is for obvious reasons .

However , most years the flies aren't much of an issue , and I seem to remember  someone hearing a mosquito in 2016 , although like UFO sightings , as of yet no one has produced an actual photo as proof

The restrooms are clean , plenty of electricity , and the pavilion will provide shelter for at least 200 if it starts raining .

You will get fed , and if you get too close to me will probably get put to work

As far as the weather goes, being early May, sometimes it gets a little cool and overcast, and I've heard of it getting rained on pretty good, but why let that stop you? When I went, two years ago, it was a bit cloudy and gray, some of the time, but not much of any weather and in the 50s-60s, all weekend.

Campfire, music, jokes, friends, food, pie, ice cream, usually a market run for goodies for cooking the group dinner, camping, glamping, midnight shenanigans.

Yeah...it's a good combo!

It was either the 1st or 2nd annual, I'm not sure. Someone left some food out in the barn that resulted in one of the most gawd awful catfights ever at about four AM. Really livened the place up!  :thumb: It's worth the trip just to see The Fabulous FUBAR in action, especially as close as you are!

If for whatever reason you came to the rally in a 4 wheeler would you be welcome? My Guzzi may not be ready by rally time.

They bent all the rules and let me in in my peek cup, but I had to bring lagniappe. Some called me a pus, I mean kitty cat and gave me a can of FDS. Rough crowd, but it was worth it. My therapist is helping me build up my self esteem so I can make it again.

The money from the auction all goes to a good cause. Keep supplying me with that cheap booze and I'll keep bidding higher and higher.

woo Hoo , new cookers are safely ensconced in the city barn .

In some local news , mentioned earlier that Emili at city hall is leaving for KC , which of course is bad news . The good news is it appears Corla Ann's daughter is retiring in Cedar Vale after 20 some odd years working in Mulvane KS , and is the likely replacement . Won't need to break a new person in, I've been told she is a chip off the old block  :thumb:
