Bought a couple of crawdad traps today. Dorcia's been complaining about them making volcanoes in her flower beds. Maybe at least we'll get some Etouffee out of it..
Cam told me how to kill them last year without poisoning the pond, but I like the catch and eat option.

Glad you're on the mend, Nick! You've got a LOT more books to write so I can read them...

Simply marvelous dahlings.  Following Bypass surgery on Thursday I was discharged today and am now home. Apart from a little cat scratch down my chest and a hole in my leg, I'm pretty much back to normal although it will be a couple of months before I can ride again.

Surgeons nurses and support staff were top notch, and even though I have zero medical insurance it cost me precisely nothing. Don't believe that rot governments might tell you about social medicine. It works.

Wonderful news, Nick. You have time to polish the bike beautifully before riding again.

Nick, Nick, Nick ... I'm really glad you're doing well, but wait till the anaesthesia wears off before you calculate about the "nothing" thing .... !

And that little "cat scratch" on the outside is hiding another "scratch" that's still curing ... don't ride till the doc sez so!

I've been really, really lucky with pain - basically hardly any at all and have been off any pain meds for many days now. I put it down to my general level of health (I was walking up to 5 miles a day prior to the surgery - staying just below the angina threshold), and the consummate skill of the surgical team. The worst was the removal of the three plastic drain pipes from my chest. That was no fun at all.

Lannis, I take your advise about not riding (or much of anything else) too soon until cleared by the Doctor. The idea of re-cracking my sternum by accident isn't appealing at all. For now Planet Earth 2 and CNN provide about all the entertainment I can tolerate.

Smart man to be aware of what your body can take, and realizing that the better your health is, the faster you'll come back from any operation or injury.

Since we're on the subject, how do you know where the "angina threshold" is?    Sounds like "exploring the limits of traction" on a motorcycle ... there's only one way to know where the limit actually is ... !

Because I'm a long time hiker, have a very active occupation and have spent a lifetime putting my body under stress, as my arteries started to clog, my heart responded by growing a network of collateral arteries to take up the slack.  For quite a while I had been conscious of a mild discomfort at the start of anything energetic which would gradually diminish if I continued......unti l late last year.  It slowly got to the point where the angina wouldnt clear if I continued to exert myself.

My walking prior to surgery was almost always on an abandoned railway line and the pace was gentle. I could tell even if there was the slightest grade, and modified my pace accordingly. The onset of my angina symptoms under these conditions was very progressive and predictable.  And I was very careful.

However, as with everything, there was some risk, but I felt the benefits outweighed them.  I was lucky and it's certainly not a strategy I'd recommend to anyone else.

Nick, sounds like you've got a level of control on your body's condition that most people don't have or don't know how to get ... Puts you in a position to "Carry On"!

Thanks for the update.

Another great day.  I just walked 1.1kms (0.68miles) around our block in the rain.  OK, a feisty tortoise might have beaten me home, but it's a start.

I also bought a Convert from a friend.  I'd been lusting after it for ages. No idea why - I just fancied it.

First day it hasn't been blowing 25 gusting to 35 all year. Flew the MonoColt and Mouser. Got most of the annual inspection done on Mouser, and gave her a much needed bath. Cleaned her belly. (yuck) Cleaned the bottom of her wings. (double yuck)
Serviced the Mighty V dub. :)

Hi Nick ... that is great that you were able to pick up a Convert in your area!  One fellow in our OGR group has a convert for sale, and I am also very interested to purchase one. Hopefully one day you could ride it up to our Lavigne Rally?   :bike-037:

Turning into a country boy.

My daughter was here Tuesday thru Thursday, with her mother's car and a gallumphing four-year-old golden retriever who put some life into Gracie the old beagle and inspired great courage in Zorro the six-month-old tomcat. Cleo is on her way to New York and on to Israel for a couple of weeks before returning to Jackson, Wyo for the summer tourist season. We rode the Mille over to the Black Canyon, pushed and pulled by a 30-knot wind.

I got the irrigation pump running and laid out Gail's sprinkler system.  Learned how to nurse a 20-year-old Sears riding mower into action, and cut the half-acre of bumpy lawn for the first time. This required taking down a section of fence so I'm now into fence repair using my safety wire skills. Gail giggles every time I do something farmer-like.

6.4kms (4 miles) today. A little sore where they stole my saphenous vein, but otherwise effortless. Hills? What hills?

One of my passions is gardening so this continual rain is really great for the garden! Up here in Ontario things are turning green at a terrific rate so I am having a good day.  As for riding, I seldom start riding in the rain so I won't be riding soon by the look of it.

Got the motor back in a Yamaha 650 VStar, all but 1 engine bolt. It's behind the evap box and to get it off the philips head screws are nfg. It may be deleted. He only puts on 2Kmi a year 3mi to work, not really a rider to go out riding more just commuting.  Took 10yrs for it to stop running. At least it's getting an oil change.
