Replacing Bar End on V7 Stone

I got an Oberon barend/mirror for my V7 Stone.  But ran into this...




How do I remove that inner threaded piece?

I just fitted Rizoma Reverse Retro's to my V7R. I think you may need to find a different mirror. Most the mirrors I looked into for our bikes used an adapter collar and then the bar-end is clamped on to the adapter. You may be able to pull the "guts" out of the bar, but it may be easier to return your mirrors and buy a mirror w/ adapter. Look into CRG or Rizoma, I'm sure there are others.

I cut the bar insert off and then mounted like the bar end.

well there you go, 2 options. If you do choose to cut then you can't go back to stock form if that matters to you.

edit: if you know what you're doing you could build something and go back to stock (see machinist thread)

The inserts are not threaded. They have a groove in the center. The bar is swaged into this groove. I got the feeling Moto Guzzi really didn't want me to drill them out so I did it anyway.

Thanks guys.  I think I'll keep the Oberon kit on my Ducati.  It's a real clean install and high quality piece.  AF1 offers the CRG Mirror/Rhino Moto combo and I may simply go for that option for my V7.  Or... get new bars ($70 for LSL Superbike Talls).

Was just suprised to see it done that way.  Only other bike I had that was like that was my Triumph Speed Four about 12 years ago.

I changed the bars on the V7C - Laverda multi-adjustable - the bonus is that after experimenting with different positions (followed by 500k rides),  I now no longer get that pain in the top of the back near the end of the day. The bars sport CFGs. But RickT's final solution is elegant.

Are they sleek and functional?Any vibration? Just want a little feedback before I break down and spend the wopping $250!!!!

Looks like Rick cashed out on us.

I have the CRG's LS, and they work great. You do have to get used to everything being much smaller.
Shop around, and you'll find better prices than $250. You also don't need those fancy bar ends. I used the insert piece that comes with the mirrors, and used a longer bolt to mount it without threadlocker.

Not to knick the original thread but ... Mal you are the only other person I have read about having Laverda multi adjustable bars. Try as I might I have never found a torque specification for the knuckles..... guessed at 65ft/lbs and some blue loctite. Any information you can add? Thanks.

In the beginning, one of the knuckles would loosen itself. I just kept tightening it a little more each time until it stopped doing that. No loctite (which would, perhaps, be wise) and hasn't loosened off since.

If it's flush or rubbing against it, you can add a washer or two as a spacer. I have aftermarket grips which are a little shorter than stock.

I'm still here, guys.  Just "reloaded myself" recently.  I swapped our my bar for the Rizoma MA001B and now have the CRG Blindsight Mirror/Rhino Moto bar end (w/CRG provision) on the left and the Rhino Moto bar end on the right (no mirror).  I like the clean look this achieved.

So I ordered the CRG lane split mirrors online and I also ordered the Rhino Bar End Adapters which are awesome and only take about 1 minute to install. I'm sure theres a DIY method for attaching the mirrors but when I'm not working I wanna be riding not putzing around trying to make a square peg fit into a round hole so speak. If I weren't a city dweller without a garage and had adequate access to tools perhaps I'd  be more inclined to figuring out a solution but I digress......

The guys at Rhino have what you need if your like me and just wanna pop the mirror on and get out there and ride on your days off! I went for a four hour ride down the California coast today and the mirror did great! No vibration and no need to readjust at all. I ordered 2 but only needed the one left side mirror so I returned the second one which felt good to do seeing as they are $75.00 a piece (ouch!) I ordered the adapter in black which I'm glad I did cause its nice and clean and doesn't break up the bar like the stainless.

I'd like to post pics of the finished installation but do not see how to do so?
