Norge running hot after TBS and not holding TBS
« on: April 29, 2015, 06:55:19 PM »
My late model Norge SEEMS to be running hotter than normal after syncing throttle bodies using both a Carbmate and a Twinmax.  After taking a test ride I rechecked the sync and it was way off, reset it, took another ride, checked it again and it was way off.  Also, connected to Guzzidiag and the temp was at 125C!  Is this normal?
Don't understand how the sync can change so drastically.
Any ideas?  Thanks, Kris

Did you re-calibrate the TPS after balancing? What proceedure did you follow when performing the TBS?

There is a strict procedure and a couple of important details that must be observed when servicing the throttle bodies. You might want to search for that on here or maybe read through this:

Closed the air bleed screws, started the bike, balanced the left throttle body at the bell crank(you sent me a picture), turned off the bike, reset the tps, started the bike and balanced the idle using the air bleed screw.

It's 2014.  I've read the tutorial and it should be a simple procedure.  I'll check it out again to see if I missed something.

Knowledge is power!

Are you syncing at a particular RPM? Be aware that "spot on" at a given speed might drift one way or the other at other speeds. In most cases it's a matter of getting it close over a good range. I try to get it closest where I ride the most, around 4000, so as not to hammer me on the highway. I use a MagneHelic differential gauge that shows 0 in the center of the dial as perfect balance and swings to the side with the higher pressure if out of balance. I ride the bike with it connected so I can balance it under load. So smoooooooth. ;D
I don't know your experience level so forgive me if this is all old news!

This is how I used to balance my BMW's, while riding with my Twinmax velcroed to the tank.
Yes, I start by syncing at 3500-4000rpm, then setting the TPS, then the idle.  What's baffling is that I get it spot on but after a 4 or 5 mile ride its WAY off.

I would check the valve clearance at this point unless it has already been done. In which case I would check the valve clearance anyway.

I checked them a couple of days ago and a couple were a little loose, I tightened them up just a little.

Air leak?
That may also explain a leaner/hotter motor. Maybe.
