I just went through Hunter's method recently with my '89 Mille. I don't really like the vagueness of the flywheel marks that don't have an accurate pointer. I already had an aluminum degree wheel, so it wasn't hard. When set to spec, all tendency to ping is gone. I may advance the distributor a degree or two until it pings a little and back off, just to see what that setting is. A little clink on rare occasions tells me I'm getting the best power and mileage I can.
