I should roll in Thursday.  Will bring grill along to help with cookn. Maybe a couple beer can chickens. May bring atv along to trail ride. Thinkn about trail riding over to nearby range for some needed high velocity therapy.
See ya,
Rod

Make sure you have cell service when you take off in those trails.  Just so you might be rescued.

Above all, don't bring any food with you that Big Foot might eat!

I am also a member of the Central OK BMW riders.  Have been for over 20 years. We will be going up to the park This weekend. Our club moved our into Sept , because of  getting rained out about 50% of the time when we had it in Oct. I'll be taking the V85TT up there to try it out on some of the trails.  I have a commitment on the weekend of the Okie camp out.

Trails will be challenging on two wheels. Want a great view, follow trail out of camp ground and up to where you can go three different ways. Go left, it will be a steep up hill climb but the view from the top is worth it. They should have trail maps in camp ground office.

 12 Days folks .

It ain't gonna rain.

Oh it will rain , as Mrs Sickbay says "it's the Okie , it will rain"  The upside is , over the years the rain has forced us into the pavilion , where many a lifelong friendship has started , sometimes at 4AM . We don't allow a little rain to prevent us from having fun.    It rained like 6 inches at the last Okie JN Smyth attended , most of us who were there would have felt cheated if we had missed spending time with the grand old man just because of some rain . Who knows which one of us won't be around for the next Okie .

Did the 6000 mile service on the Griso yesterday and it needs to see some twisty roads.

Thinking I will load it in the Ridgeline and haul it down there. A lot easier to carry the camping gear and a wide variety of clothes and stuff. If the weather gets real bad, I can sleep in the back seat.

Just booked my room at the Rocking H in the downtown Talimena metroplex.   Have scheduled my aromatherapy session for Saturday morning.   Looking forward to this!

Have scheduled my aromatherapy session for Saturday morning.

Mine will be standing downwind drinking coffee while Doug is fixing breakfast.   :food:

Are reservations required for tent sites? I'm strongly leaning towards coming, but won't know for sure until a few days before.

 What Doug said .

We have the entire area around the pavilion , and there will be open spaces on the South end of the park .

Joeseph,

Plenty of room to tent camp around the Pavillion.

I have tent site seven reserved, probably squeeze you in over there if it is unusually crowded.

no.

Peak season is around first week of November, that's about three-four weeks later than New England.

Couple of quick questions.  Can the hosts confirm some of the written requests I’ve previously sent?

Not trying to be difficult here, but I’ve not received any response to my inquiries—despite sending them via US certified mail, return receipt requested.

First, please confirm that we will be using Guatemala HUEHUETENANGO coffee beans.  More specifically, the coffee known as El Injerto from the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala.   Organic please.

Second, please confirm we are using locally sourced organic cream.  I’ve grown partial to the cream from the Ayrshire cow, free ranged over Swiss alfalfa.

I’m not picky.  Just checking up on the accommodations.

There is nothing we can do about the predicted 30 degree temperature drop from Thursday into Friday , or the predicted rainfall on Friday . The weather looks good on Thursday , and again on Saturday and Sunday . The folks who have attended the Okie in the past know that every year the conditions for a period of the event will be uncomfortable , yet we manage to overcome the discomfort and have some fun anyway .

Along this line of thinking , on Friday we could visit the Choctaw museum , a mere 20 miles distant from Talihina , I haven't ever been to that facility , but have heard it is interesting . Fairly certain we will have adequate enclosed transportation to shuttle us into town for breakfast on Friday morning then onto the museum where we can stay dry and keep ourselves occupied . Or we could locate a billiard hall, or a movie theater .

Point is , yeah , Friday is gonna suck . but we can work around the rain . The restrooms in the park are heated and dry , and while the pavilion floor turns into a river , we can sit on the tables with our feet on the benches . Once the front blows thru we will have some crisp Fall conditions , perfect for the Talimena Skyway , and for building a roaring fire .

The Okie is now a tradition , a beautiful location , great park hosts who cater to our needs , and Doug's and Rod's famous cooking will keep us fed. Don't let a little weather keep you away , better to be with friends watching it rain than to sit at home watching some boring football game , right? Guzzi riders are tough and resourceful , we can somehow manage to have a great time together no matter what , remember that .

 Fair enough ?

See you all this weekend .

I am reminded of something a group of Yamaha riders said about us a few years ago when we were all camped at The Talimena park and they were at the Wilhelmina Lodge .

"Those people are tougher than us." Or maybe it was "crazier" , no matter , we are who we are , right ?
