Well, almost.  This is the Kid's barn find very early Sport. (Some assembly required) There's a lot of Dr. John in it, though. It's serial number 37.

The usual barn find detritus.. easily cleaned up, and the tank is perfect. Mistral x over and mufflers. 

The left footpeg could use a little blue pill, and the vise grip shifter needs some improvement. He already has them sourced.

Man! I *love* projects like this. His plans are to get it running and going down the road before deciding how much time and money he wants to spend on it. I'm thinking an early sport like this needs to be saved..  It's bound to be rude, crude, and fun..

nothing special on it, the sandcast triple is stock. The daytona was a few years earlier. The sport carb is it's weak sister. But you can still have fun after cleaning it

I contacted seller...he has a deposit on it locally. Will know by weekend if deal goes through. He said for me to contact him Sunday with update. Maybe I can get this bike yet?

Rare when new.  Unobtainable now.  That's a $2500 exhaust system on that bike.

Bike looks new!

All is needs is some Keihin FCR41s to go with that exhaust system!

Not saying I couldn't be wrong I just don't remember the carbon Staintunes having the full wrap around hanger bracket. I thought they had the same style hanger bracket as the stainless version but it has been 20 years since they made them.........

On the '96 bikes they were silver on all.

Now you have me doubting my (feeble) memory.

Header/Crossover has to be Staintune, but I guess the cans could be something else.

'94 and '95 had the body-color lower fork legs.  '96 had silver.

The Carb Sport was made from '94 to '96, though I thought the '94 was particularly rare in the USA.  But they all are, I guess.

Chuck, here are the production numbers for the Sports in case you were wondering. I would think you could narrow down the year with the VIN.

Sport 1100 Production numbers:

1994: 365
1995: 1,191
1996: 215

Sport 1100 IE

1997: 1,314

Sport 1100 Corsa

1998: 200

Well, the VIN had a 1 followed by a bunch of zeros and 37.

Like the ones using electro-metering induction with computer machines.
The ones with too many valves.
Oh, and the ones with the forks wrong-way-'round necessitating those odd ball mudguards.
Too, the ones where I can't see through the pork-chops.

Yeah. 

If the 10th digit is an "R", it's a 1994.

If the 10th digit is an "S", it's a 1995.

Are you planning on pulling the gearbox for a looksee? I would, for a couple of reasons. Firstly the early Sport C's were smack in the middle of one of those 'Crappy Clutch Plate' episodes so it could go it's at some point.

Secondly there is the problem with the straight cut box. Some, but apparently not all had poor case hardening on some of the gears. Fifth was the most problematic and IMHO it's worth taking out the straight cut fifth on principle and replacing it with a later, five dog, or earlier, six dog, helical alternative.

On boxes I've been through I've found if the damage to fifth is addressed early by replacement it is unlikely that the damage will progress to the next stage where the primaries and third cry uncle. When that happens it's all over, endgame!

I used to not like the Carb Sports because of their issues but at the end of the day they really are a glorious, magnificent dinosaur and if I was to buy a spiney, (Retirement looms!) a Carb Sport would probably be my pick......
