stone fuel pump assembly. how to install??

04 stone quit on me yesterday. after trailering it home i decided to investigate. im not overly mechanically inclined. mechanically challenged actually. managed to pull it out of tank and discovered hose popped off pump. common problem apparrently. how the hell do you get that contraption back in the hole? when i pulled it out the zip ty holding the filter??  came off making it somewhat easy to get it all out. when its all together with the zip ty in place its seems impossible to get it back in. can i leave zip ty off? thanks in advance guys. what should i do to keep this from occurrring again?

All I can say is to be very careful with the small diameter metal rod,about 1/16". It is the low fuel sensor and breaks real easy. How do I know.

If the filter is not tied back in place, it may bang against and break the fuel sensor. That will not be a cheap part to replace.

I removed the sensor when my pump was re-installed but I know from long experience, when to fill up by watching the trip meter.

I welded mine back together and it works just fine. That was the second time I had it out. The first time I was on the side of the road somewhere in Kentucky where I left someone a large dead spot in their grass. I had just filled up and had to dump much of it in the ditch. Don't remember having trouble getting it back in.

Yes, a thermistor on the end of the rod. It should measure about 1k ohm it you test it.
I bent mine so the light comes on at a more reasonable point. It used to come on with over 50 miles left on the tank. I would tend to ignore it. And I would then be out of gasoline with an unhappy passenger. 

When the hose came off on mine, I repaired it along the side of the road. It isn't easy getting that assembly back in the tank, but it can be done. I think it swells up once it is pulled out.
