I have something to say about this motor but first, a suggestion, send your wife on a cruise, just a week. That would give you plenty of time to set fire to the living room set and remodel it just the way you want. Remember, It's easier to get forgiveness than permission. Now the hijack, is that an external oil pump on that motor? Maybe this bike was fitted with an oil cooler or even a dry sump?

I'm betting it's an early prototype V7 engine with dry sump and frame-mounted tank. The pump is likely driven by gear off of the crank, same as the production engine, it's just the pump is mounted to the timing cover. If you think about what the biggest bike Guzzi was building at the time (Falcone) and how it was configured (dry sump, frame-mounted tank and oil pump on the timing cover), it all kind of makes sense.
When I arrived home today, my shop was in disarray. My wife had bought shelving and wall lockers and had retained a fellow to redo the lighting, insulate and drywall the ceiling, and paint. I'm feeling bad that we haven't redone the kitchen yet...

It looks like it could be a two-stage pump as well - the forward-most stage scavenges oil from the sump and returns it to the tank, one behind is the pressure stage. The lump of fittings to the left of the pump in the photo (rider's right side) probably contains the oil pressure relief valve. Boy am I glad this wasn't what made it into production!
