  The crickets were real.  They lived in the walls of the garage where the first songs were recorded.
  Buddy heard them on the recording and allowed them to stay in the music.  He then gave the band the name "Crickets".  Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

This November '58 tune was years ahead of the curve.  You can hear some things in this song that appeared later, in the mid-'60s.

Keep in mind that Buddy's "career" spanned 2-years.  Only a couple of albums.

Buddy was influenced and inspired by Elvis, when The King played a gig in Lubbock that Buddy attended.  Had Buddy lived another 20-years, as Elvis did, he would've followed a similar path into pop.  Buddy was extremely talented, and very motivated.

Some of you guys are taking a lot away from the Elvis of '55-'58.  He was knocking down doors all over the country.  He could play several instruments and knew how to arrange a song.  Though most of his later career was covering pop songs, and he never wrote any songs, he was a very talented entertainer.

 Yeah, early Elvis, Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and so on changed the music and perhaps changed the country
