I don't think a restoration is feasible. The motor is supposed to be a monster.

Here at Dave's home for wayward Guzzis I like projects. But that may be a little over the top. Lots a work, could make a cool bike out of it though. Good luck and keep us posted on the project.

What's not to like? Tank, triples, frame, engine and apparently spares are there. I've done worse airplane projects..

Got the original motor and the race motor, original se close ratio tranny a spare (maybe eldo?) forks, and a set of custom billet triple clamps. I need everything that goes between the tranny and the rear wheel ( besides the swing arm). I'm not sure what kind of rear differential would be the sturdiest. Also I'd like a front wheel and axel, 16" would be fine.

Hard to go wrong with the original type rear drive with 7/33 gears. Driveshaft and coupler are available new for under $100 at MG Cycle, a new u-joint is ~ $237.

My thinking was rather than a Dr Jon Replica why not Dave's Cycle resto(mod)? The bike might have history all it's own. ANd you could still trick it out with Dr J parts and stuff.

I like this idea. Find the history and see what story you might tell for years to come. I love doing the Dr. John stuff, but it looks like it was close to it anyhow... by appearance anyhow. You might find exact.pics to go by with a little research through this Dave cat. That would be a find. Fun stuff.

that is a nice start of a project!
at least you can mod anything you want, you are not destroying a original classic
i built myself a ducati F1 , started with just the frame.
basically i can fit whatever suspension i want, no worries about originality.

I'm leaning that way now. Dave's Cycle was the local Ducati, Guzzi, Morini, and Triumph dealer . They also raced and this was Daves racebike until he switched to a 900SS.http://www.teamwreckless.com/home.html. I've known about this bike since about 1991. I'm not sure if I'd want to clear the tank of have it re-painted.

Looks Like Its Using An Earlier Short Head Frame, Not The Mk IV One.

The forks are currently on half of a 1980 G5 frame that was experimentally monoshocked and had the steering head geometry altered. That frame is going in the trash as soon as I get the forks off.

Dave and Kathy use to own Dave's Cycles in Mesa. I bought my Daytona 1000 from them. They sold it and the owner that bought the dealership is/was not a customer service type person. Last time I saw them I had lunch with them near their home in Queen Creek. Kathy use to be the "monkey" when they use to race sidecars. Buffalo, NY area IIRC.

I'm going to start this to document my progress. Motor and tranny have been checked, clutch and plates like new. Fresh paint on drivetrain!
Engine is 78 x 94, X7cam, major port work, lightweight flywheel.
