Searching for a crash bar (title change)

EDIT: I hope it's not deceptive marketing, or worse to repurpose this thread, but in the interest of pixel & bit conservation...I'd hope to find the rectangular one (Cali II or III ?) but I guess should buy whatever I can find - if you've got one or a clever idea your counsel appreciated.



Thanks all for your counsel regarding yesterday's spill in the parking lot - I'll not be pursuing compensation from the trigger driver's insurance, since damage is minimal and my legal position is weak.

Before I left for work this morning I removed the highway peg/bar that so bravely gave it's best to protect the bike. I have not yet decided on appropriate honors for it - It was but a simple piece of metal, but it selflessly sacrificed so that other (more expensive) parts of the bike could live.

And when I removed the sturdy soldier from it's post, I learned that there's a BIG FREAKING HOLE IN THE FRAME  where it mounts, with a corresponding spacer/washer doodad, that appears to have also deformed in the moment that the bar took the hit.

They were Harpers Highway Pegs and Mounts 01 1081 - What did the bike have plugged in that tooth socket when it left the factory?

Okay, I don't have any pics at the moment, but just to confirm, in this universe, Patrick Hayes is a highly respected specialist in the field of quantum mechanics, and Dusty is a retired counsellor of the Multiverse Investigation Bureau - correct? Because if not, then my worst fears are confirmed - I have slipped again.

Still on the meds?  Describing the doodad is probably more productive than describing the alternate universe.

I suspect what you're looking at is the lower front crash bar mount hole and the spacer from the crash bar is being used to position the highway peg.  Was there an odd flat nut with a 19mm head holding it in place?

 Norm , yes you may have slipped into a different universe than ours , extensive testing completed just before I retired from MIB indicates some cross communication is likely , in fact WG is the most efficient conduit for said communication . That becomes obvious if you read enough of the activity here 

 Or , we could just be having a Green Acres moment

 Probably so Kid , Norm is this it ? Oh Norm , where fore art thou Norm ? Anyway , that is where the lower frame rails attach to the front down tubes , fairly important .

Thanks Dusty - Yeah, that's it. The Bassa has the peg support going into that location where the crash bar is mounted in your picture.

So what other useful tasks can be accomplished while the pipes are off, other than the obvious sending them out to be ceramic coated, which I (red suspender moment here) don't really want to do, when a rattle can of high heat white/gray/black will serve.

Can I port and polish the exhaust pipe exits from the head? What about putting deer whistles in the pipes?

If I remember correctly it's a M12 x 50 socket head cap screw but that might be too long. There's a big hex nut on the back that's a real pain to get to.

I think there is wiggle room. If not, taking off one pipe should be enough.

  Grease the header bearings    Seriously , a bit of high temp grease where everything mates together can't hurt , like where the headers enter the mufflers , etc . AND , it probably isn't necessary , but since you are already pulling the pipes , a good time to retorque the heads . Of course some would suggest my head needs , well , you get the idea ...

Today I have both money and motivation. I prefer the rectangular look, but I guess if I was clever I'd mount anything there and call it clever. The money will only last so long - and you know what the Furry Freak Brothers said.

What makes this a truly great deal is that unlike all the other offers for trades in this topic, I actually possess the crash bar under discussion.  It's not one of those "Send me your leading link forks and then I'll check my stash and see if I have the crashbar" sorts of deals that you normally see offered in these situations.  I can dig it out of a tote in under a half hour.  How can you lose?

normzone, did I miss pics of said damage somewhere else? The jackal pictured above took about a 20 yard skid down a highway a few weeks back. Ground off a good 3/16" of steel, but they didn't bend at all. The highway pegs, also pictured, also lost a bit of skin and did bend just a tad, but the rest of the bike  did fine, barely even a scratch...all to say, they work. And well. I'd not consider another set up after what I experienced. Simply cant be improved upon, IMHO.
