To be clear I am not knocking the builders design ideas, but I get really tired of claims  that say  "This Guzzi has undergone a full nut and bolt restoration".

Describe it as a "custom build", "a refreshing take on the old standard", whatever suits your mood, but to call this a nut and bolt restoration is at best a misuse of the term. :violent1:

If I were interested in buying this I would sure want to see all the bills for new engine, transmission and rear drive parts and machining.

There have been several V7 Sports claimed to have a full rebuild, one noted that the original cylinders were inspected, judged to be excellent (how they were inspected and by whom is a mystery) and reinstalled. I called BS to that claim.

Yeah, that looks like a big fat pile of suck.

"Custom features were added to give this bike a 1930's racer look to an electric start and very reliable 74 Eldorado."
What does that mean?

OK, I'm guilty, too. I bobbed and reversed the fender on my Ambobber, which has been modified slightly after this pic was taken.

I can't even get any interest in my Eldorado and yet this abomination has $5,600 worth of bids. Maybe I need to cob on a set of clubmans and a peashooter exhaust and then someone will buy it.

Isn't that where the bidding started ? I don't believe anyone has actually bid that much .

Whitewalls, fishtail mufflers and "police" handlebars will make it sell.

IIRC a 74 should have a 4LS front brake. That's half the value of that model.

Works for Moe!

The loop is a natural to add the bling to.

I am stunned that anyone would be willing to pay the current amount bid for the Eldo at the head of this post. Other than the stretched tank all I see is a lot of paint covering the original chrome and aluminum and the RED painted engine case. I just hope the buyer checks out that the mechanical components have truly been restored as the eBay listing claims.

Without pictures and receipts of all the work that went into the drive line I don't think its worth $4K.

Depending on the date of mfg., either 4LS or a disc.

Good grief  Well , my understanding of what a poorly executed loop frame "restoration" is worth must be way out of whack

Reserve NOT met!!!!

A few comments on Facebook:

Make sure you ask the owner questions about the so called rebuild, if you decide to bid on the bike, I know this bike and the builder

Lets just say his nut and bolt restoration means replacing just the nuts and bolts. Look at the photos up close on ebay. One thing is the rear frame has been cut off , so what is supporting the rear fender and the weight of the metal tractor supply tool boxes. Anyway I would ask to see receipts for the motor, trans and rear end rebuild.

well I guess he did not make is 15 grand reserve, probably a good thing for the bidders, as they would have a hard time getting it registered, as the tile numbers do not match. A sucker born every minute. He is good at selling polished turds...

While I disagree with the term "restoration" in this case,as well as the price... y'all are acting like a bunch of purist snobs.

No , we are saying that an unoriginal motorbike of this quality isn't worth $10K , or even $5K . I have no problem with what someone does to their motorbike , just don't attempt to tell me it is worth way more than it really is .

The interest and the bid, even though  it did not make reserve tells me something about the market.

There have been several Loop Frame bikes on Ebay that appeared to be very nice restorations and claimed to have had the requisite replacement Giladorni's installed that sold for under $10K.

Excellent, concourse quality, true ground up rebuilds very rarely, if ever reach $15K.

Then lo and behold along comes this custom, blacked out bobber with a cut frame and paint over all the chrome and alloy and it passes $9k!

I think the folks who want a 'restoration' of a Loop either have one already or will restore their own, and the ranks of those of us who care about originality and want to preserve a 40+ year old bike are dwindling,.... simple demographics.

The new 'crowd' is into the chopped custom cafĂ© and want something  'different', and this particular bike struck the right notes to a lot of people.

Gets me thinking that if I were to restore rebuild another Loop and I wanted to break even or make nickel or two then the custom black bobber is the way to go.

I think its like the muscle car market, gone are the 100 point original restorations replaced by resto-mods with modern drive lines, brakes and suspension. The new buyers don't care about matching numbers and stock, they want comfort and reliability.

"...just don't attempt to tell me it is worth way more than it really is ."

It's worth what the market will pay. Full stop. That's how it works.

You wouldn't pay that, nor would I. But someone will. So that's the value of it.

True , but is someone really paying crazy money for this kind of stuff , or are the claims of "well , I turned down (insert figure) last month just a marketing ploy ? There is a 1976 R90 here in Muskogee that has been for sale at least 15 years now at $10K , the seller claiming he has turned down $9K repeatedly . Every time I see the guy he tries to sell me on the idea it is worth that much , or more . Nope , no way , no how .

To your example... no. It's not worth that much, because *nobody is willing to pay that much*.

As soon as someone does... presto. That's what it's worth.

I am pretty heavy into the SOHC CB750 world, I understand this phenomenon very well. Non-running, basket cases, missing 40% of their parts, being priced at $1800. But people are *paying it*. Which pisses me off to no end, but... it is what it is.

Can't blame a guy for wanting make money. There's a sucker born every minute, and sometimes, they aren't even suckers.., they just have enough money to get what they want.
