Magni bevel box leak at pinion.
« on: August 15, 2016, 08:21:15 AM »
Hi fans of the V,
Almost finished the resto of my Magni Le Mans and there appears to be a missing seal.
Does anyone out there know if there's an oil seal for the bevel box pinion.
Oil is leaking out through the bearing and into the Magni Parallelogrammo bracket that mounts onto the drive box. (red arrow)

And the main pinion nut has what appears to be a bearing face on it (blue arrow) which is fairly rough so I need a new one of those as well if I find a seal to fit. I've measure the inside of the bracket housing and the face of the nut that would take the inner lips of the seal.
OD: 47mm
ID: 33mm
Width: 7 or 8mm

I have found after market seals that would appear to fit, but would like the "real thing" if possible.

Any help would be grand.

You should be able to find a shaft seal for a couple of bucks u.s.   Nothing special. Look at the old seal and see if you can read the numbers on it.  Use a dual lip seal.  It will seal better.

I don't recall anything special about the bevel box of the Magni, the drive shaft is very different, but not the box

Its been a while since I looked at mine

As I remember there is an O ring on the pinion but that's about it.

The my LM 1000 parts manual only shows an O ring too

This is all just off the top of my head mind so I could be (and often am) wrong

You could also contact Giovanni Magni and ask as well, although it may take several attempts to elicit an answer.

I'd also add that his parts prices are reasonable, I've gotten a few parts direct and he is not out to rip you off, which is surprising considering the bikes are not exactly thick on the ground. He still supplies parts for nearly every model (I just got a spare fairing for mine a few weeks back)

There is a shaft seal inside the cone section.  You can see in the top picture where it has been rubbing on the stepped/shouldered nut.  I know on my Magni, there is an shaft seal inside the swingarm where the gear box attaches and the shouldered nut passes thru.  Or inside where you have the arrow pointing.  I have the original Tonti style swingarm.

Cheers team, I have all the O rings but they don't stop this prob.
I think Orange Guzzi is in the right area. I've ordered 2 seals 47/33/7 & 47.3/33/8 to see which fits better in the "cone" of the bracket

.

Have contacted Giovanni, but it's August and Italy is on holiday. :)

Brace yourselves
