Breva Sport handlebar and peg mods.

Love my 1200 Sport, but could not handle the wide, low bar. Also find that the rear portion of the peg carrier splays my heels out, and causes pain in the hips, as well as making it nearly impossible to have the balls of the feet on the pegs. like a normal sporty bike.

My first step with the pegs was cutting some golf-ball style dimples in the smooth, round peg end. That gave a bit better traction to my boots, but wasn't enough. Step 2 was a set of "Master Grip" pegs. While they're still too short to get my heels clear of the peg carrier, they are very grippy, and my feet don't slide around on them. They feel very secure, and I can find comfortable positions to ride in. Not perfect, but much better.

The bars just had to go. My hands go to sleep, and the reach and width are too much for 5'9" me. They also caused extra hip pain, with the reaching and bending over the tank. First try was a set of black, fatbars from a Yamaha XSR-900. Nice looking matte black bars with screw in weights. Thick walled and heavy, but nicely damped vibration. I'm guessing that 1100 owners having taller stock bars, have more cable slack than 1200 sport owners, because I ran out of cable slack on these. Also, I should have angled the LH switch-gear to better clear the tank. I got them pretty good, but unless they could rotate toward me a bit more, I had a mild up-turn in the bar ends. Nice height, nice pull-back, low vibration, looked good, but I like a flat or dropped bar end. Counter steering and tight turns just felt wrong and a touch un-comfortable. The bars cost me around $120 Canadian, plus $30 or so for the bar ends.

Step 2 was a set of Renthall fat-bars from a 2016 Suzuki GSX-1000. One of the new GSXR motored naked bikes that was on the dealership floor. I'd been looking at Renthalls, but had no luck finding a Canadian distributor who carried the street versions. Here's the amazing thing. I asked how much, expecting $130 or so for an OEM Suzuki part, and they said "$70 bucks". That floored me, as it was less than half of the price on Renthall's own website. Ordered a set right then. They are an open ended bar, so I made bar weights from a set of aftermarket aluminum bar ends, swapped for the steel weights from the OEM 1200 Sport bar. The weight comes apart from the screw in portion. These are a bit lower, and a bit less pull-back, but most importantly, the grips sit pretty much flat. They also weigh about as much as a pair of socks. Took a short ride, and they feel low and sporty, but comfortable.

Consider Goldwing pegs in place of the stock sportbike pegs:  lower, longer, wider, and rubber-topped.  Brand new take offs on eBay are $50, you just need one new Honda spring to complete the swap.

I ordered the Aprilia Mana bars before I even took delivery of my 1200 Sport.

I had to remove the locating pegs on the switch pods but that wasn't a big deal. Bonus was that the Aprilia bars are threaded for the stock 1200 Sport bar end weights.

I 'should' have ordered the Mana bars before riding home from the selling dealer in Swanzy, NH to Hudson OH.  I think I had them on order the day after my first ride.  I also liked the fact that Mana bars were already threaded.  Those locating pegs have to be something an Italian lawyer dreamed up!

The Mana bars are very expensive, and I wasn't sure that I'd have enough slack in the cables to fit. These Suzuki bars are light, cheap, and Renthalls. I had to drill new locating holes, but that was it. The original weights fit fine once adapted to the aftermarket bar end parts.

Not sure I'd want anything as chunky as Goldwing pegs, but I'll have to take a look next time I'm near a Honda shop. I assume you're referring to the GL1800?

Can't remember what I paid for them, but I put Mana bars on mine too.  I loved them.  It was a straight bolt-on deal - the stock cables worked fine and the bar-end weights screwed right in.

The pegs are on lots of bikes with plastic switchgear housings. My 01 Bandit has them. I took them out on that bike, and the switchgear wouldn't stay put. The throttle housing (all in one on that bike) would turn when you opened the throttle. Had to put them back and drill the bars.

I lucked out with the 1200S bars.  After removing the pins, the controls went back on and were bolted down.  No twisting or slipping so far.  Every now and then I have a small stroke of luck!

Interesting! They are the standard, riders pegs from a GL1800? Any mods needed? Cost?

Also, the Sport looks great in red!

Search eBay for GL1800 pegs.  You'll find some used from breakers but there are always new take-offs from trike / floorboard conversions.  About $50 shipped, mine came with the frame mounting brackets (not needed).  They slip right in and fit perfectly, no mods.  You'll need one extra Honda spring, about $6 from bikebandit.com or your local Honda dealer.

I haven't changed pegs as I find them comfortable but am using LSL Superbike bars on ROX risers. No changes to control cables required.
