Oil leak at back of transmission 850T-3
« on: August 28, 2016, 04:04:46 PM »
I have transmission oil leaking where the thrust bearing outer body exits the cover .
First time noticed ; trans is still full .
Is there a part that "usually" fails ? I see an O-ring in the parts diagram .
Looks awkward to get to . Can it be repaired in place ?
Thanks in advance .

O-ring sits in the outer thrust cup. Drop off the clutch arm and, on a T, maybe the brake linkage and you should be able to pluck it out without even removing the swingarm.

Good reason to inspect the throwout bearing.  Often it is bits of the bearing cage which tear up the o-ring.  Bearing is cheap insurance.  Just replace it and the o-ring.

BTW, if the rear cover bore has been damaged, I can install a stainless sleeve to restore it.  But, you'll have to disassemble the transmission for that work.

Got it apart and back together . Bearing looked good , Replaced the o-ring . It was a little flattened , not much . Thanks again .
