Author Topic: Throttle lock type for Calvin (Read 5325 times)

Can anyone suggest a simple working throttle lock for a 07 Calvin. I have even considered simply unhooking the throttle return spring if it can be done easily. If this sounds radical I am very familiar and use to this method. As an ex motor cop this procedure was did on all our bikes as we had to have a free right hand on demand. Responses appreciated up front.

A 1" rubber "0" ring around the heel end of the throttle is what I use on mine. It increases the return friction just enough that you can release your hand from the throttle for, say, 20 seconds before having to nudge it up again. Otherwise, the throttle feels normal. Can't get simpler than that.

I use a modified Vista Cruise. It is locked to the Throttle pod with a self tapping stainless screw. This turned out to be the best solution for me...and it was cheap.

While rodekyll was visiting, we drove by Marker Machine. It is the home of the Throttle meister. Pointed the shop out to him. See in the local paper that there are having a complete auction. Not sure if the Throttle Meister will be available any more.
I love them.

On my 1200 Sport, the distance between the throttle grip and the bar end was the same width as a bungee cord. I took an old bungee cord, wrapped it around that vacant space (with no tension) zip tied it, cut off the excess and that's it! In a split second I can move it from its off position on the bar end to ON position lodged between the grip and bar end when I want the throttle to be wedged in place. Still able to operate the throttle. Taking it off is a split second pull onto the Barend.

These work very well. Tossed the Uni. Vista in the trash after clipping this on. You'd probably want the larger model. I've got them on both bikes.

Yea, I forgot about the O ring trick that does do a fare job of briefly holding the throttle for a clothing adjustment or getting a bee out of your shirt, thanks for the reminder!

Tom, they really do work great when on an extended riide as your wrist is under no pressure. It would be great if they would incorporate these with some type of lock system.

One of the friends uses a leather strip/string with a Throttle Rocker. Uses it as a friction type throttle lock. Loop it around the grip and use it to hold open the throttle. Cheap and easy to use. I always forget about adding one but remember on a long ride.

Can anyone advise if they have used or know anyone who has simply disconnected the throttle springs? This was the method we used on the patrol bikes when I was a motor officer, on the Harley's and later on the 900 Honda customs. This was back in the early 80s so I'm sure other techniques are used on today's cop cycles.

Interesting - and sad to hear. However, some Internet searches show notices regarding the auction, but don't show any results for liquidation or bankruptcy. With any luck, it's an orderly re-organization and the owner(s) and products will see daylight down the road.

I've put a Throttlemeister on every bike I've owned since 2002, except for my DRZ-400 Super Motard (who'd lock the throttle on a Super Motard?!?

A Calvin is a fuel injected bike. You can't simply unhook a spring. Are you wanting less fight to twist/hold the throttle, or are you wanting it to have zero return when you let it go yet no resistance to rolling on/off?

To install the Vista Cruise, all that is needed is to trim the locking tab and drill a hole in it. Fasten the locking tab to the throttle pod with a stainless self-tapping screw, taking care to avoid the split and without interfering with the cables within. The photo in my previous post really shows all you need to see. It has a tension adjustment, so it can be as loose or as tight as you wish. It works great...

I just want some way to hold the throttle for a bit in the event I need to use my right hand for a few seconds such as zip a zipper or get a bed out of my shirt. I have alwYs used the vista Cruz throttle lock but they don't show one for the Calvin

Thanks sheep, looks like that may work. I just can't figure out why these companies won't in luxe moto guzzy in the product line up:(

Tom's right; Moto Guzzi is a tiny fraction of the US motorcycle market. However, that's what lends the marque exclusivity. Besides, I like solving problems on my bikes. I like figuring things out and making a motorcycle mine...mine in a singular way. There are very few CalVins out there...and even fewer that are turned out like mine. I like that.

Instead of screwing my Vista Cruise to the throttle pod I glued it with hi temp Permatex RTV.
