You guys do understand we don't get paid to do this ....right ?

Someone find the last poll , where is the OP ?

 Dusty
I tried. I've noticed of late that the general standard of banter and witicisms has come up a notch, so it can only be due to an increase in the number of Aussies. There's no other plausible explanation.

No doubt Kev , when all of the wild creatures are trying to hurt you it pays to have a sense of humor , and then there's the native flora and fauna ...

Funny that you mention that your scruffiness, I saw today where
they just discovered 50 new Spiders up North I'm glad to say, one
of them is the size of a Dinner Plate.  :food:

Let's hope the big one is friendly  We have Tarantulas here that will get that big , but they are docile . A few years back Rocker's GF picked one up that had come to see what was happening at a camp out . Another young lady screamed and jumped onto a picnic table

Hmmm ............ bet she slept well that night!!
Don't know anything about its demenour - the previous winner of the
bigness contest IIRC was the "Bird Eating Spider" which I think would
have to be fairly active or starve.

I kinda like the fact that we're still "discovering" - it'ud  be so bloody
boring if we really knew everything instead of just thinking we do,
though I always wonder how you'd miss something like a spider that's
that big, for so long 🤔

Maurie.

Aussie is a fairly big country Maurie mostly uninhabited in the middle apart from a few aborigines and wildlife. Wild camels [emoji247] even

Are those camels gentle like normal dromedaries , or are the Ozzieized ? Possessing large pointed teeth with a venom that will kill a man from 20 paces ?

Mabe that's the problem Kev - with 40,000+ Years of wandering there
wouldn't be much the Aborigines had missed. There's more collaboration
these these days but there must be a mountian of knowledge lost already,
and without their knowledge to give a lead, well, as you say it's a very big
place to find anything in. Then there are Cultural bounderies too.

Dusty - no personal experience but from what I've heard and read
the old Afghans had a great eye for quality Camels which I s'pose makes
perfect sense. Apparent we've got somes of the best bloodlines presently
exhisting and there are sales back to the Mid-East mainly for racing, but
cuddly they are not. Normally not a danger except when the Males get in
Muste. They get very aggresive and look for trouble.

Maurie.

Mate of mine worked in broadcasting back in the seventies & got a job in Saudi for a year. They covered camel races over there which seemed odd to a kiwi 🥝 back then.

Is the percentage of Aussie posters among forum members growing ?

I think I’m innocent of that crime Dusty.. :thumb:
But I’ll take one for the team and keep coming up with stuff. There’s a 2 month trip from London to Turkey then Sicily to Spanish West Ciast kicking off in 6 weeks...
That’ll generate some antipodean input with the usual banter..

Those bloody camels can be a bit of a road hazard.  Big & scary esp. when they loom out of the gloom at night.  Luckily not where I'm living.

Some places it just isn't safe to use 2 wheels for travelling at night.  We have lots of suicidal Wombats, but.  Mere speed bumps. Haven't been able to fit a 'roo bar to any of the bikes yet.

Bugga me !,,after years of flying past feral goats on a HD, getting the occasional disinterested gaze from them, I now discovered, they run away from Guzzi's , which is a worry, 'cos next they might run AT me, like stupidity on legs, Emus, and "lets jump in front of the next vehicle" 'Roos

I suspect actually that the Guzzi presence % wise is greater in the Southern Hemispere than it is in the States. I am just about to depart on a 500km jaunt and I expect to see say 5-6 Guzzis on my way up.

Certainly my end of the Mainland there has been a marked increase in bikes with the engines round the right way.
In fact most rides lately I either see, or run into someone who has one at home.

Well Huzo,
The guzzi exchange forum has all but died in the bum, we had to go somewhere that nearly speaks English.
Funny both of the characters who couldn't get along there seem to at least be civil on this forum, one of them departing seems to have triggered the decline.
Long drop toilets eh, I'll give the deepest one I ever came across was one the side of the road in the bad lands back in 1970, it reminded me of the mine shafts in Coober pedy only about 3 times the depth.
Nearly lost the 2 year old sister down it, probably would have rake 2 to 3 seconds to hit the high tide mark.
Whom ever dug it didn't want it to fill up in his life time.

Cheers
Pete (no not the Bungendore one)

There's more camels in Australia than in the Middle East. That's why we export them there.

I knew we exported racing camels, but do we export live meat or frozen or butchered carcasses?  If not, then why not?  Given the paucity of the current live meat export trade in mutton esp., but also cattle, it seems a pity to waste an export income strategy that will help us dispose of at least some of this pretty damaging feral pest.  Pity our usual export markets are forbidden feral pigs too.  There's a 24 million plus razorbacks out there rooting & wallowing their way to the ecological destruction of much of our top-end wetlands.  Not to mention the bloody buffalo, brumbies, donkeys, dogs, cats, goats, foxes, rabbits, cane toads, carp...........&c.
