2012 Norge fork oil change

Is it necessary to remove the forks ....to do a fork oil change?  Or is it possible to pump or siphon it out?   Also what weight oil?

On my '07, the forks are always removed, upended and refilled.  I don't know what the 2012 calls for in the way of fork oil, but mine as different springs and cartridge emulators and uses 15w.

Maybe its just me
But pulling the forks and cleaning every thing checking things out.
For me its just good quality time spent with my scoot
I always  drain my forks by hanging them upside down
Usually i pull the guts and clean and replace if need be

There are people who pump out the old oil - it never gets as much out as actually removing and inverting them to drain. Weight selection is a matter of preference, and may also change if you use a non-stock spring such as HyperPro or Wilbers.

Yep, what they all said,firstly loosen the fork caps after loosening the top pinch bolts. GENTLY tap a wedge lightly in the lower clamp to expand it a COUPLE of thou' after first loosening the lower pinch bolts.  Remove the cap and compress the forks placing the bits on the bench as they appear. Then ass up with the forks and drain the cat's piss out that they added in Mandello. I use Bel Ray 15W, I think it is .. Every 20,000 k. Hand tighten the cap and re install the forks,nip up the lower pinch bolts, and tighten the caps gently BEFORE YOU NIP UP THE TOP PINCH BOLTS !

I don't have that model, but I'd look into drilling a drain screw in each leg after disassembling the first time.

Not such a bad job...about 2 hours actual work time...let them drain during lunch. Good tip Huzo on using a wedge on the pinch bolts...it is quite a tight fit, if you don't do that. The stuff that came out didn't look too bad, considering it is the factory oil with about 14,000 miles on it.

  It called for about 18 oz. in each one, and that matched up with the service manual measurements of 110 mm down from the top, with the sleeve and spring removed, and the fork compressed.. Refilled with 10w this time to give it a try.......if not I can replace it with a little heavier.
Good news is the shop was in the 70's  all day.  I opened the doors this morning and placed a fan to circulate some of the cool Canadian air in ...50 degrees this morning....closed the doors.........and it stayed nice for working all day................ now the customary 300 mile test ride!!!

See mate. It's a bonding thing as I see it. Turn on your favourite music (Bob Seger), crack a can (VB), get your favourite mate around to talk some bull****, and just do it. It's amazing how many potential dramas you see when you get into it. BTW, I've never enjoyed my maintenance so much as I have since I bought my scissor lift work stand. They're the Duck's Guts...

Oh yea...couldn't do it without the lift.  And the work is always a little easier when I don my Moto Guzzi workwear.
