B11 keeps blowing fuse.
« on: August 23, 2017, 03:09:56 AM »
A few months ago, I bought a B11 with sidecar.
After a few weeks, I got the dreaded starting click.
Battery was ok.
I thought "Startus interruptus".
Wrong, it turned out it already had the right cure (fused wire from battery to starter relais and from there  to starter engine).
I had it towed to the dealer, who blamed a dodgy starter relais that made the "floating" fuse (is that the right English term?) of the extra wire blow.
After new relais,  things went well for a week or so.
Yesterdag, waiting with shut engine at a railroad crossing.
With - of course - some 15 cars behind me: Click.
Same fuse blown.  Luckily had a spare.
Any ideas about the possible culprit?

What is the fuse rating?

I might try putting a larger fuse in, maybe 5 amps more, and see what happens.

What is the Fuse letter Frans - is it Fuse D?

I'm trying to solve a fuse D problem on my B11 - see here http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=91817.0

I have a suspicion about the speedo sensor on the front wheel shorting out, but I haven't been able to prove it yet

So I'm interested in what other symptoms you see as we might be able to help each other!

So the added fuse for the startus interruptus, is blowing?
If it is a 15 amp fuse, on an ADDED circuit, you can safely bump it to 20 amp.
It would not hurt to disassemble and clean the starter solenoid. It would be very unlikely to be a relay.

As Wayne mentioned, it is likely the starter solenoid. I had this problem with the Mighty Scura. Mark at MGC had a whole box of takeoffs from warranty claims, back in the day.
