A major part of me wanted to miss spell that carburettor name very slightly in the interests of childish toilet humour since we're touching obliquely on the needs of his missus, but Dusty WOULD kill me..
But jeez it would be understandable if I did, after all, the first consonant in that name only has to be one letter further on in the alphabet and....

"but Dusty WOULD kill me"..
Maybe not, I think he knows you have a pretty good sense of humor, and meant no harm.
Dusty also seems to have a good sense of humor, as long as things don't get out of control.
You know, that clap-back, shade throwin', twitter erupting kind of stuff

I've talked to fellow forum members at NARs that don't post here because the feel that nobody pays a bit of attention or cares about, or responds to their posts.

I never thought about it but fact? is the human condition seems to require some acknowledgment of a persons contributions to the group.

I tell them that some are just uh...wordy and like to explain things. I am guilty of that for things that fly.

No matter how you cut it this and most likely (this is the only forum I go to) other forums are a bit "cliquey"

That's face it 20,000 posts has got to be close to 5,000 hours of sitting infront of a computer screen!!

Just say'n

If I'd rather see a thread go away, all I have to do is make a comment. Call me "Thread Killer" Kirby???? who is that guy anyway????

And I don't have much sympathy for George........sorry .

Also.
I'll admit to being a little embarrassed, now I remember him..
He's that guy who's mates with Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and that guy from Shawshank Redemption.

unlike so many scooter riders, Geo had his gear on. :thumb:

His helmet was broken.

His helmet was broken.
Yes but in the interests of full disclosure.
Early details are sketchy as we go to press, but it seems the helmet wasn't damaged in the crash. Dear old George caught a glimpse of his reflection in a puddle and the consequent swelling of his cranium took the shell of the AGV past it's design limits.
I'm glad he wasn't hurt though, popular cinema would never be the same without such classics as "Up in the Air" and the likes.

The reports I heard said he was going 60 mph when he collided with the car.

After seeing the damage to the car and the scooter (or lack thereof), I think the speed was MUCH lower.

My thoughts exactly. Probably 60 kph................ ................... .................35 -40 mph

A classic left turn in front of the cycle.

He was definitely moving at a pretty good clip
interesting the other scooter went between the car and the parked truck.

A classic left turn in front of the cycle.

I see the car being stopped ,partly turned, before Clooney ran into it...As mentioned, the other rider made it past the car...Looks to me he failed to turn to the right most likely because he is unfamiliar with scooter handling...Or excessive speed.

I see a car stopped on the wrong side of the road taking up more than half of the lane only a split second or so before Clooney (riding staggered toward the middle of the road) fails to swerve into a seemingly narrow gap between the side of said car (stopped in his lane) and the truck that is waiting to enter traffic. The fact that the rider just ahead and to the right of him managed the swerve only tells us that is was POSSIBLE for THAT scooter/bike to make it and little more.

Speeds of the two riders seemed similar as best as can be judged from the video.

Screen shots:

Normal traffic flow showing lane that the offending Mercedes will incorrectly stop in:

Mercedes approaching turn in its own lane:

Mercedes incorrectly stopped in/occupying oncoming lane as first scooter rider approaches in right stagger, right before he swerves through gap:

Right before collision:

Not having any other information regarding speed, speed limit, expected traffic patterns, line of sight approaching intersection etc. I'm not going to make any other SWAGs on what Clooney could or couldn't have done. Maybe he could have swerved too, maybe he was already too far left. Just can't say.

What we can say with conviction is that the Mercedes shouldn't have pulled into and stopped in an oncoming lane of traffic. That seems pretty clear unless there's some bizarre difference with Italian driving laws of which I'm unaware.

Agree:  that video looks a lot closer to 60 kph than 60 mph.

As much fun as arm-chair quarterbacking is, based on what I'm seeing I have no idea if he (or I in his shoes) could have avoided or not.  Even with slo-mo.  Looked like he was too far left (looks around 3 ft? left of the 1st rider) to make that swerve/angle.  I suppose he could have tried going on the left of the car but that is likely to create other crash potentials and not where natural split second instincts would take you (unless you're Brit or a Kiwi ;) )

The Mercedes obviously shouldn't have been in the oncoming lane.  That 1st person through had a pucker moment.

Amal? Geez I thought she was a carburetor......... .
Or in this case one of England’s leading human rights lawyers, who was doing high profile work before she met George, and who has continued to do so since. A very bright and able person.

Just read that George Clooney was "...hit on his motorbike..." on his way to a film set in Italy. He lives on the shores of Lake Como, not far from the Guzzi headquarters.

I love the Euro use of the term "motorbike", it makes them all sound like mopeds.

Wonder if he was on a Guzzi?
We’ve had a spate of two-wheeled crime in London. The bad guys ride things like 350 trail bikes, but the press will keep referring to them as mopeds. I keep imagining them as outrunning the police pursuit vehicles on NSU Quicklys.
