We were out at a week-long family reunion.   No motorcycles, but I can explain, I swear I can!

First reason is granddaughter Abby, with whom I spent much time on the playground, she being 3 years old ….

Second reason is granddaughter Emma, who enjoys hiking through the mountain trails and woods at age 4 …

And enjoys shuffleboard!   With a bit of a handicap, she can play even-up with me ….

Then there’s grandson Phillip … 10 months old, just about walking, gets in to everything and laughs about it …

Then there was a bit of fishing on the Cacapon River in West Virginia.   Absolutely beautiful day, although the fish were wilier than I was ….

So sometimes you just don’t get to motorcycle.   This coming week for sure, though.

That turd of a Honda quit me for the last time. Left me stranded in the rain. Never did get to ride it on that lonely beach road. There's a song in there somewhere. Put it on CL, it sold overnight.  :thumb: Looking for another commuter. Either another scooter or a small dual sport. Another year and a half to go before retirement, Lord willin. I'm still haggling with a friend over his 74 Eldo LAPD. Yes, another long term storage unit queen, never learn.

Off it goes with its new owner

Yes sir they are.   And all the stories you've heard about young daughters, boys and protective fathers won't hold a CANDLE to a protective Grandfather!

Lannis

This is true.

I am a multiple great grandfather, and I can tell you: Parenthood teaches the meaning of life. It's that first time you pinch up a wee soft morsel of food to place between their precious wet lips that you first get it: this is why I was put here. Grandparenthood teaches you the meaning of long life. You begin to feel like you have finally accomplished something. You and the old lady both, these tiny treasures are the first thing you think of in the morning, and the last thing you discuss before bed. You, her, and they are all on the same wavelength. You admire the way she stirs cookie batter with them. She admires the swing set you build in the yard. It bonds you all over again. Greatgrandparenthoo d teaches you the purpose of death. You know you both will be gone to make room for them before either of you get to know how they will turn out. The whole cycle teaches you that every day is a gift.

Enjoy your gifts.

Unless I live longer than I think I will, or the girls get married earlier than I hope they will, I probably won't see great-grandparenthood since Fay and I were 30 when we had our sons.

But I hold with everything you said!

Hey, dusty -- thanks for asking!

I spent the day trying to get better cell phone service.  gci/T-Mobile is useless to me in the lower 48.

Verizon -- couldn't port over my existing ph# and couldn't use my phone.

T-Mobile -- what I'm moving from (GCI piggyback).  20% call-thru in Seattle and Portland.  Won't hold a signal for more than a minute in St. Paul.  It sucks to have to borrow a phone to call in your ride from the airport, and the phone keeps chirping whenever the signal ping-pongs.

Sprint -- ports number, but must buy their phone.  I spent a crapload of money for the phone and more for the non-portable apps.  they have no program to move over apps or replace them.

So it was ATT as the only major carrier that would handle my two requirements.  It took all day, in the rain.  Still can't get incoming, but can make outgoing calls.  The port-over should be done this evening.

Well, a beautiful 30 deg C, the sun is shining and the birds are coughing. Spring has sprung and summer has come.

Yesterday I had my mate Jimmy Two Tanks (it's a long story) around for an espresso, and while I was telling him about the back pack that is permanently on the Breva looking like finally dieing, he told me he had one that was all packed up to sell and the buyers never paid for it. I could have it if I wanted it. It is an absolute beauty, 100% waterproof (so they say) and incredibly well designed. Will complement my two throw-over bags beautifully. Thanks Jimmy! :thumb:

Today I was able to treat myself.
I had gone to see WINZ (Work and Income New Zealand) to see if I could get a bit of help with a power bill that had got out of hand.  Not only did they clear it up for me, with a small reduction in my pension to repay it, but they actually offered me a food ticket worth $100!!! Yay! I was able to buy a few bits and bobs the lack of which was holding up the works  and even able to shout myself a bought coffee and scone while down in town.

Got a nice hug from a friends daughter too!

A very pleasant morning in the sun!

Christmas day today, and waiting for the family to show.

Yesterday I was in at our son's work as he replaced a collapsed front wheel bearing and I worked on the "parts" bike. This is a mini chopper, ostensibly a 50cc but fitted with a 110 cc mill. He had bought it not going and said that it was my task to get it going. It is a Chinese knockoff of a 110cc Honda engine. It had a large important looking black box with lots of wires going in to it, and when I took the box apart there were lots of loose and broken bits floating around. I could not find a wiring diagram on Google so I biffed the lot and started afresh.

It still has the magneto flywheel ignition, but now it has a spark, and a big fat one at that. :thumb: It also sports a full 12 volt DC full wave rectified system with lights, indicators, horn, brake lights and it now charges. Another :thumb:

By the time he finished the wheel bearing job I had it fired up and we took turns tearing around the car park. Other than appearing to need a new needle in the carb (won't stop flooding) and finishing off the sissy bar on which I have put the rear light and number plate, indicators and rego sticker so that it can actually be seen by following motorists, we are ready to go.

Actually sounds quite rorty. Has a one into two exhaust with no baffles. Nice when a plan comes together. :thumb:

Took a break from teaching skiing and spent Xmas weekend at the farmhouse we just bought in Paonia -- our first nights there. Wonderful 1894 house, warm and cozy and solid. It's going to be great fun settling in over the next few months.

Post office and some other businesses still closed for Boxing Day.  I didn't realize they thought so strongly about the gents art.  Sidewalks should be unrolled tomorrow for business as usual.  Other than that it was just another poopy day in paradise.  Monsoon season you know.

Well, the wife's mother fell down the stairs last Friday.  Several hours in the emergency room.  Fortunately, she only suffered a bad gash on the back of her head which was patched up.  And I got the flu, likely from crowd of flu sufferers in the waiting room.

But I can't complain.  Got a good job, about 7 years from retirement.  My kids and grandkids are healthy.  I got a roof over my head and a full refrigerator.

Thanks for asking.  :thewife:
