Most folks who come here looking for the value of their bikes give a ballpark figure, features list, condition and pics, and a discussion ensues, with the owner answering detail questions about what he's got. It's kinda what's expected. In fairness, you did say in your OP that you were thinking about selling it and were asking value and marketing questions. You didn't say "I've got this thing for sale -- make offers." In that regard I can understand you getting annoyed by lowball offers. Me, I don't know that bike from a Suzuki as far as why it's special and what the value might be. My first reaction to $5-6K was that it must be something, since most Guzzis of that vintage go for <$4k in 9/10 condition. I was quite surprised to see estimates of twice that.

So it's entirely possible that the lowballers didn't know what the value could be, either, but it's human nature to take a chance on something attractive. They ballparked it low. I don't think they meant to be insulting.

But regardless, if you'd repeated up top that you're just looking for help establishing the value, and especially if you posted pictures, I think the results would have been better. It's not too late to do that. There are folks who know the model here who could give an honest opinion if they could get a picture of it, and a lot of folks, like me, who would like to see what all the fuss is about.

Historically on this site we get a few folks every year who put things up for sale but refuse to give a price, pictures, history, or responsive answers to questions about it. Then they get abusive when blind offers are made that they feel are lowballing. With a nod to the above where I acknowledge that yours wasn't a sales topic, this thread followed the historic pattern to a "T". The reaction of the members was predictable, and in light of your last comment, they might feel they overreacted a little, too.

I'm not in the market for another motorcycle and I have no idea what you've got or what it's worth so I've no dog inn the fight, but for what it's worth I think if you got some pics up and some of the questions answered you could get the discussion back on track.

As far as modern Guzzis go the 1000S is highly desirable and a lot of us would love to own one. What you unintentionally did was dangle a steak in the front of a kennel. You can't blame a few of us for taking shots in the dark.
I guess by now you got the hint that we want to see pictures of the bike. I think it's fair that in exchange for getting a value for your 1000s, you share a little bike porn. ;D
IMO if it was a '91 with the big valve motor it would be more desirable.
My guesstimate would be between 8-10 thou for a really nice '93.

Hasn't changed much in 15 years except for the rear brake light and the seat.

Can't imagine ever selling the bike.

Pat sent me pictures, I can confirm that it is a very nice and clean 1000S.
Almost a spitting image of mine.

As such, I would put the value between 11-12K. I would not sell mine below that anyway.

Once again, I apologize for overreacting. I felt a bit "accused" and I realize that I need to "grow a pair" over this issue. But, if I was really ready to sell my bike, I would have a lot of current pictures ready. I will forward a few along after I take some as well as some pictures of a couple other Guzzi's that I have tucked away. It's just that I have too many hobbies and feel like I need to "thin the herd" in order to feel less overwhelmed.

While the big valve motor might be 'more desirable' from a max hp standpoint.. Doesn't the mid valve have more midrange umph??

The mid valve engine is arguably the best of the 2 valve big blocks. Plenty of torque, tractable, and doesn't have the accelerated valve guide wear issue of the big valve engines. That said, the big valve engine is kool. ;D

The "green thing without a headlight" is mine, and it has a headlight, it was removed in that picture because I was fitting up a Lemans fairing to the bike and was making up some headlight bracket extenders and so forth in order to get things to fit. Foto very kindly helped me with some wiring issues regarding aftermarket turn-signals.
It's not for sale.

$9,000 in '93 is about the same as $14,600 today, according to the Bureau of Labor. That's holding resale value pretty well, I'd say.

They went for about 5700 bucks here in Tulsa. No one wanted them. There is a famous ad offering 1000 bucks off the retail. Cycle World did a comparo with the 1000s, K75s and a third bike I can't remember. Maybe a Ducati. "This grandpa can really hustle" was one of the comments about the Guzzi, and top speeds of 140 mph were mentioned. After that article, and after they quit making them, the Guzzisti woke up and wanted them.
