This is a 2004 Honda VTX1300 that needs a complete "once-over"









Of course, the carb needed a bit of attention. 






The wheel bearings were good, but there was heavy pitting on the wheels.
It was 100 grit sandpaper to start and a fair amount of time sanding with progressively finer grit and then a polish.






How about a little "spin polish" ?

Working on this CX here.  Nothing huge, but lots of little things needing address.

Got some great parts from Ben/Scout63 (thanks, man!!) so my bike now has correct rear turn signals, a tool tray and more installed and waiting.  Many new rubber bits have been installed with more pending, new throttle cables with 90 degree adapters added, went through the handlebar switches, new bushes installed in brake & gearshift pedals, tires & another new battery (sold the new battery I had with my 90 Evo FLHTC...) are coming, rebuilding both master cylinders planned for later this afternoon, ….

I’ve been lowering the bridge height a couple thousand’s at a time to lower the strings.
It takes a while due to having to remove the strings before each adjustment.

At 6K Mi. I’ve finaly had it with the OEM Dunlop bias ply tires on my V7/850 ! I bought a pair of Continental R A 3’s a month or two ago . Sooo , that’s this long weekend project . As of this post rear is almost did . Relatively easy , taking my time , I hate having to rush a first time gig . I should have the front done by cocktail time , if not there’s manyana. I’ll try to get a ride report out , biggest improvement to Ride & handling on my MkII was tires . Coffee break over back to work

Trying to fab up a horn bracket for my bike.  I don’t know why mine is missing.  Someone put the horns on the side of the headlamp instead.  Bracket looks simple enough to make.  Used bracket with horns is on eBay for like 50 bucks but I’m cheap! Lol

Nothing exciting.  Cutting 5 acres of grass, burning brush. Changing oil and rear gear lube on my Gold Wing and organizing the basement!

Complete suspension  and steering overhaul, as well as brakes and cooling system.  Almost done

Putting an aftermarket slip-on muffler on the Pan American...but access to all the fasteners holding the stock stuff that needs removal is hampered by the RH side rider foot peg bracket assy...whose removal requires taking off among other things the center stand. Now I know a contributing factor to the effort getting this thing up on the center stand...compared to the Kawasaki.
On the bright side..haven't encountered any of those plastic rivet things...yet.

Yeah..
Aircraft builders/restorers are another level, but they say the same about Beetle types and they say the same about wheel builders and they say the same about Law Professors and they say…………etc.

There’s at least one of everything here.
But yes, I’ve crossed paths with these types and I’m always amazed. They’re the sort that could build a piano…

 I'm with you SS. Chuck is a hard act to follow, good thing is, it's guys like him that raise the bar of what's possible for all of us.  I built an airplane once, it was a cox , I flew it in a circle until I got dizzy and fell down and it crashed into the neighbors fence. Glad it was not as series as an endeavor as Chucks projects. If WG ever considers a Hall of fame Chuck has my nomination.

After I retired I got a job with a very small business overhauling radial aircraft engines. The owner was restoring a Curtis Robin airplane. Everything had to be absolutely perfect. I don't even have any ideas how many hours he had in machining a new bowl for a fuel valve. I knew he would never finish this project. Unfortunately he didn't,  he is now in a long term care facility suffering from Parkinson's disease. My wife is one of his health care people.

I was searching for a V7iii but I came across this W650. It was sitting awhile so the carbs are now off for a cleaning
among the other usual maintenance to get her properly sorted out.

We spent the day at home hiding from tourists.  I refit the G5 bag brackets after a rear drive overhaul, solved the SR leaking carb (a few good taps with a screwdriver handle), and reinstalled the pump levers in the Ducati carbs.  Then I grilled shrimp and lamb chops for dinner.  Finally I tried to fix a fishing reel for tomorrow’s early trip and dropped all the parts on the floor. Happy Fourth to everyone.

The temps for the upcoming week are forecasted to 100+ , so it'll be nice to be working in the basement in the AC.

No pics yeat but I just bought a heap of a truck- 1992 Dodge 250 Turbo Diesel...  Strong runner but needs many bits-and-bobs to pass inspection and drive safely...  Soon as I get a tag on it will be heading to the Asheville Tool Library to check out some scaffolding so I can take down my listing & leaning (out of service) chimney.

Oil change on the Triumph Trophy SE. Just got back from a 10-day trip from Maine to North
Carolina and back.

Finishing fixing electrical woes on the BMW K75S. Then we have to change all of the fluids,
check the valves and replace the plugs.

Cali 1400 needs a valve adjustment, plugs, oil change, and new tires in 500 miles.

Rocket III needs a valve adjustment at some point.

And all of the above conspired to require new batteries this month......I swear they
talk to each other in the night.

SR500 needs a new oil check valve. I ought to upgrade the oil pump and lines while I'm at it......
I was gonna do this job this past winter, but the dreaded supply chain issue reared
it's ugly head.

And all of the usual work around the house, gardening, wood cutting and splitting, etc..

Tires update . Got them on with the help of my H F m/c tire changer . Not scratching the rims has been a challenge so after some trial & error on previous jobs decided to try wrapping the irons w/cowhide worked great ! Rode about 90 Mi. To scuff them in . WOW , like I rollerskated onto a cork floor . All the small irregularities & jarring , gone . Way smoother. In the last 20 Mi. I gained enough confidence to drag the pegs on both sides ! Nuff said.
