If the Corsa is one of the models with WP suspension that's the first thing I'd be throwing money. Yes, WP were supposed to be super-marvey back in the day but the springing on both ends and the damping, particular
Y at the front was well over the top, riding a WP sprung bike, well, it's as good as un-sprung! Unless you and your passenger enjoy the experience of collapsing your vertebrae on light road ripples a re-fit is a must.

I could never tour on something like an 1100 Sport but Mike does so obviously some genuinely freakish people can! ;D

The Corsa is. They are long in the tooth bikes now, not really worth throwing tons of money into suspension. Just enjoy what they are. The WP is much better than the Marzocchi forks on the Carb Sports. Not sure what you are saying about un-sprung ( too soft or too hard )? The only real issue, which is a cheap fix ,is to put stiffer springs in the forks.

Can't say I agree with that.
There's some pretty ropy road surfaces around my way, as well as cobbled streets and I find the suspension soaks up the bumps well.

The Marzocchis on the carb sports are great forks in the way that they perform but they are slightly soft in the springing. The main problem that they have is keeping the oil in, the seals are crap.
The later WP forks are quite stiffly sprung.
Cheers Voncrump.

Yes, but you'd never agree or listen to anything I say on principle which makes the whole matter null and void as far as sensible discourse goes.

Not at all.
If anything, I've been really surprised at how compliant my bikes suspension is over rough road surfaces.
Maybe it's just been expertly set up, I don't know but I certainly have no issues.
Don't know what else to say really.

Yup, it must of been because stock they were dreadful. I suppose of your we even more morbidly obese than me they *Might* of been tolerable, especially if your pillion was a baby rhinoceros but really, the stock set-up? Well, it didn't deserve the term 'Suspension'.

Well interestingly I've read several road tests reports of the day, and never found one mention of this issue.
I suppose it depends what you're comparing it too.
If you want to try really bad / dangerous suspension get a ride on a Yamaha V Max with a stock set up.
That really is, erm, entertaining,

The stock front springs were really soft on my carb Sport.

A couple years ago I had MI install WP springs and 10wt oil.

It's much better now.

I do not however, recommend obtaining a set of Öhlins front forks from a V11 Cafe or whatever unless you get that front fender with them. Front fenders for Öhlin'ed Guzzes are rare as hens teeth.

The Aprilia front fender will work.

The suggestion isn't that WP didn't make some good product. Simply that the stock set up on Guzzis tended to be lousy. Nobody would suggest tat Ohlins make a bad product either Butthead forks and shock on the Scura were dreadful, verging in the lethal, stock.

I'd measure the equivalent Aprilia's and perhaps the Ohlins equipped Ducati's of the time while Aprilia hadn't purchased Guzzi by then I'd be very surprised Guzzi went to a composites factory and got them to make a one off very low volume run just for them. Far more likely to be a while you're stamping out 10 000 of those add a another 500 for us.

Bought this one new in 1999. Modifications are Mistral exhausts & crossover, Edge rearsets, Power Commander & LCD Display, & CBR600 Mirrors (model year 2000 - sacrilege! But I like to see what's behind me rather than have a good view of my elbows!). I have the seat cowl (from Teo Lamers), but no photos - no sun this summer. The one major issue I had was with the gearbox input bearing;

That's impressive.
Only one issue in 9 years.
At what mileage did this happen ?

There are no parts left to rebuild the WP forks. The last parts that were available are in my spare set and they're still short two items. No hope for WP's find some suitable Öhlins and do the right thing. I do not however, recommend obtaining a set of Öhlins front forks from a V11 Cafe or whatever unless you get that front fender with them. Front fenders for Öhlin'ed Guzzes are rare as hens teeth.

That`s not entirely true. Stein-Dinse still lists some parts. My suspension technician has told me he could easily find Ohlins parts that could be fitted for wear items like bushings. Although not usually cheap, anything made, can be made again.

Hi Paul,

The gearbox input bearing went at about 12,500 miles. Crazy way to save not much money during production. I bought the bike in June 1999, but from the date stamps on the plastics, I reckon the build date was around autumn 1998.

I see you're running the standard pipes.
I have Termigs on mine, but I did get a complete standard system in a box with the bike.
I'm tempted to fit it just to see what the differences are.
I know that after refitting the stanrd can to my Griso after using the Termg for a while, it lacked the sound but was definitely more responsive at higher revs.

Has your engione been sprayed.
If so, (as I suspect), looks like a good job.
I'm thinking of doing the same and would appreicate some pointers.

Actually, it's a full Staintune system.

The bike runs much better with it.

More ground clearance, too, with the angled headpipes vs. the stockers.

Have to remove the sidestand for trackdays.
